The fierce style of basketball that helped bring Jack Taylor national fame has now cost him the remainder of the season.
The Grinnell guard, who scored an NCAA-record 138 points during a game earlier this season, suffered a radius fracture in his right wrist Wednesday and will miss the rest of the college season.
“It sucks to happen midway through the season,” Taylor said. “But at the same time, I can say that I had one heck of a season.”
The 5-foot-10, 170 pound sophomore from Black River Falls, Wis., suffered the injury when he drove to the hoop in the first half of Grinnell’s 119-117 win at Cornell College in Mount Vernon.

Taylor’s dad, also named Jack, took him to an Iowa City hospital, where doctors confirmed the injury’s severity.
“I felt something shift in there,” the player said. “It was really, really painful. I’ve never broken my wrist before, but I knew that was probably what happened.”
Taylor, who had his wrist in a splint, was trying to schedule surgery for Thursday. He said doctors told him that three months of recovery awaited him.

Taylor achieved overnight fame with his 138-point performance against Faith Baptist Bible College on Nov. 12. He was the center of a media feeding frenzy, including appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, ABC’s Good Morning America and The Dan Patrick Show.
Taylor, who launched 108 shots in the win, was praised for his record and criticized for how he accomplished it.
He thought his drive-to-the-hoop style, which led to the historic performance, also played a factor in his season ending prematurely.
“I’m pretty aggressive at attacking the hoop, and I fall down probably 10 times a game attacking the rim,” Taylor said. “It kind of comes with the territory of being an aggressive player.”
Taylor, who leads the nation averaging 36.3 points a game, said … [For more on 138-point scorer Jack Taylor's season over after broken wrist, click here.]
