#2: Derrick Williams
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in the news quite a lot in recent weeks. With the arrival of Ricky Rubio and the never-ending saga of whether or not Kurt Rambis is the coach of the team, the 2011 NBA Draft only added to the talk. Seemingly every day there were reports of the Timberwolves talking with another team, trying to gauge what the interest is in the number two pick in the draft, the highest pick in team history.
Well, they used the number two pick to draft Derrick Williams out of the University of Arizona. They made the right choice at the number two selection, but the question is…did the Wolves draft him for themselves or will he be a part of a draft day trade soon?
In recent weeks, most have believed Williams to be the player with the most star power in the 2011 draft and many teams are interested in his services. There have been many reports throughout the day, as well as the moments leading up to the draft that the Timberwolves were in discussions with numerous teams still for the pick.
Williams is redundant to Michael Beasley, so did the Timberwolves make the right move as a 17-win team and pick the best player available or is he going to move? Many are saying the Wolves have stated they are keeping him and the Timberwolves PR staff was very quick to hand out his bios to media members in attendance tonight.
Stay tuned, Timberwolves fans.
