2013 NBA Draft – #17: Dennis Schroeder
With the 17th overall selection in the NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks selected Dennis Schroeder.
Schroeder is an athletic point guard adept at penetrating the lane who has starred on various German national teams throughout his early career.
The Hawks are facing a bit of uncertainty at point guard with last year’s starter, Jeff Teague, likely headed to restricted free agency. The selection of Schroeder gives the Hawks a bit of insurance in the backcourt for a team with only three players (Al Horford, Lou Williams and John Jenkins) with guaranteed contracts headed into next season.
The buzz surrounding Schroeder intensified at the 2013 Nike Hoop Summit for the World Select team, where he excelled against some of the world’s best up and coming talent.
Schroeder played the last two seasons in an elite German league against much older competition, an area where Schroeder feels he has an advantage over his peers in this year’s draft.
