2013 NBA Draft – #29: Archie Goodwin

Combo guard Archie Goodwin of Kentucky was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with their 29th overall pick. Sources indicate this pick is headed to the Phoenix Suns.
Many projected Goodwin, just 18, to slide into the second round. He is the youngest American player in the 2013 NBA Draft.
The 6’5, 189-pound guard was expected to play the point guard position last season, but he mainly played off the ball.
At Kentucky, he averaged 14.1 points, 2.7 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals. Goodwin played with unusual confidence to start the season (before things turned downward for the Wildcats as a whole); he’s good in transition, very good at the rim, but his jump shooting is problematic. He tends to force shots and stumble in decision-making. The one-and-done player will need several years to grow into an NBA player, but his upside is particularly high. He’s long and athletic and handles the pick-and-roll well.
This could turn into a very good pick…in time.
