Day three of the Portsmouth Invitational was the best of the camp so far. The three games played were decided by a total of eight points. Here’s a look at who stood out in the thrilling action.
Carl Hall (Wichita State) – 6’8, 238 lbs.
Hall made it very clear that he is still not over his team’s Final Four loss to eventual national champions Louisville, but he managed to put his emotions aside and put together a heck of a performance on Friday night. Hall put up a monster double-double of 15 points, 19 rebounds and had two blocks as well. He made the go ahead bucket for Roger Brown’s Restaurant over Cherry Bekaert and was a menace with his activity, good hands and athleticism.
O.D. Anosike (Siena) – 6’8, 241 lbs. Forward
Combining with Hall to form a very formidable duo in the interior, Anosike posted a double-double of his own with 13 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three assists, a block and a steal. He’s a big, strong low post presence who doesn’t shy away from physicality.
Devin Booker (Clemson) – 6’8, 250 lbs. Forward
While Booker and the rest of Cherry Bekaert’s frontline had trouble containing Hall and Anosike, Booker did manage to make them work on the other end of the floor. He finished with a very respectable 10 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. He had some of the biggest dunks of the day and definitely stood with what he could do on the offensive end.
Brandon Davies (BYU) – 6’9, 235 lbs. Forward
Once again Davies was an absolute beast. He continues to perform like one of the camp’s best, putting up 23 points, 12 rebounds and three assists against the Portsmouth Partnership. Davies has helped himself as much as anyone at the camp and could be working his way into second round consideration. At the very least he will definitely have multiple summer league invites to consider.
Tyler Brown (Illinois State) – 6’4, 185 lbs. Guard
Brown put on a scoring display on Friday, scoring 24 points on 8-17 shooting from the field, which includes four makes from beyond the arc. He also grabbed four rebounds, tallied three steals and handed out four assists to no turnovers. Although it wasn’t enough to top Davies and K&D Round’s Landscaping, Brown could not have performed much better. He was precise, aggressive and very effective.
Sales System LTD
Every day so far there has been one team that has just been too good collectively to spotlight any single individual. Sales System’s LTD was that team on day three. Seven different players notched double figures in an 89-85 victory over Portsmouth’s Sports Club. James Ennis had a team high 17, but it was a complete team effort as they shot 48 percent from the field collectively. Kwame Vaughn was great all around once again and Ed Daniel was one rebound shy of a double-double.
Abdul Gaddy (Washington) – 6’3, 195 lbs.
Coming into the camp looking to showcase his point guard skills, Gaddy had his best performance yet with nine points, ten assists and three steals. He only turned it over three times, which is acceptable considering how much creating he did and how often he had the ball in his hands. He’s definitely been one of the best pure point guards in attendance.
