#25: Tony Wroten

With the 25th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, the Memphis Grizzlies have selected Washington freshman Tony Wroten.
The 6’6 combo guard averaged 16 points (44.3 percent shooting), five rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.9 steals for the Huskies this past season. Wroten is a great athlete would solid playmaking ability that has a chance to crack the Grizzlies rotation this next season – especially if Rudy Gay is on his way out and Memphis doesn’t retain O.J. Mayo.
Mayo’s departure, along with Gilbert Arenas’ possible exit, would create a definite need for a combo guard for the Grizzlies.
As the 25th pick, Wroten went right about where he was expected to be drafted. Even with his size and skill combination, shooting touch and turnovers are issues that need to be addressed by the Grizzlies’ coaching staff.
Even with those flaws, it’s hard to pass on a player with the type of upside Wroten could possibility possess that late in the first round. You can’t teach size and players with Wroten’s combination of length, athleticism and playmaking skills aren’t exactly a dime a dozen – even on the NBA level.
If the right dominoes fall for him, look for Wroten to be in the mix for minutes at either guard spot in spurts next season.
