#30: Jimmy Butler

After making a trade for Nikola Mirotic with #28 pick, Chicago went ahead and drafted about as steady and blue collar a player available in this draft class, Marquette’s Jimmy Butler.
No Bull played more minutes last season than Luol Deng, so it’s not surprising to see Gar Forman and John Paxson opt to bring in a heady, hard-working small forward like Butler. In no way is Butler an outstanding athlete like some of the other players in this class, but despite not really doing anything great, he does literally everything well. He’s about as well-rounded a player as you’ll find in this draft, and his reputation as humble kid with a great work ethic should make him a perfect fit with the Bulls.
His inspirational story has been much publicized throughout this process, but ending up in Chicago, just a short drive away from where he finished his college career, is a great next chapter in that particular story. The Bulls are clearly a team on the rise, and outside of shooting guard, which they’re likely to take care of with a veteran in the offseason, finding a backup three was a huge priority for them. Butler should take care of that, and he’s likely ecstatic to be stepping right onto such a competitive team.
