The NBA announced today that 41 players who declared as early entry candidates for the 2011 NBA Draft have withdrawn. Notes:
There weren’t any really surprising withdrawals at the deadline and certainly none that will have a major effect on the draft. Lucas Nogueira had a chance at being a first round pick, but was not NBA ready and was likely to stay overseas next year anyway. Due to the buyout in his contract doubling from 1.5 million euros to three it’s far more likely that we hear from Nogueira again in the 2013 draft rather than in 2012. By staying in the draft, Jonas Valanciunas’ (Lithuania) camp obviously feels confident that there is a reasonable resolution in sight for a buyout of his current contract. Davis Bertans (Slovenia) and Nikola Mirotic (Spain) were thought to be on the fence, but word is Bertans received a guarantee in the first round and that Mirotic is committed to Spain for at least two more years regardless of where he’s picked.
