The Mavericks took down the Warriors 128-106 at a time when the Mavericks needed to utilize all of their guys in the place of Josh Howard. The Mavs easily answered the call with the play of J.J. Barea. Dirk was Dirk in the first half, but once the Warriors cut the lead to two, J.J. took off. It started in the 3rd quarter in which he scored eight consecutive points and deflated the Warriors' hopes of ever coming back.
"I drove to the basket and that layup got me going," said J.J. of his first basket in the 3rd quarter. "Then Dirk found me on the break and then J. Kidd did a great job of running the same play for me and we got the pick-n-roll working and he kept running it for me and I kept attacking and it worked out."
"We needed him tonight to step up and give us some playmaking and scoring," added Carlisle. "He did that and he battled on defense. He gave us a terrific effort. On these nights where you don't have Josh, you've got ot find some guys to step forward. Barea had a terrific game."
J.J. recorded his fifth 20-point game of the season while Dirk and Jet scored 26 points a piece. Gerald Green also stepped up with 14 points and three steals.
A surprise to today's game was Jet being in the starting rotation and according to Carlisle, that was due to a jammed wrist that Jet experienced at practice yesterday.
"It was virtually last minute," said Carlisle. "He jammed his wrist yesterday in practice so he was sore today. My plan was to start Barea because we had been getting off to good starts with Barea out there. But after seeing Jet taking some shots on the practice court, I just felt he had a better chance to work through that if he was able to go right from warm ups to the game. I basically told him when we walked out there, 'Hey, you're starting.'"
Carlisle says he'll wait and see how Jet's wrist is feeling for Friday's game.
As for the Warriors, Nellie said they played without any energy due to the back to back games. I'd say it was pretty obvious that they were tired since they were struggling to even pay attention to the game.
"I guess we did," said Stephen Jackson on getting close in the 3rd quarter. "I really wasn't paying too much attention. They did what they needed to do to win the game. They're trying to get a playoff spot and they played like it tonight."
I'd say that pretty much sums up the warriors' season in a nutshell. Well, that's it from the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Next time Dallas plays the Denver Nuggets on Friday at home and then Golden State faces the same Nuggets in Denver.

After a much-needed four day break, the Dallas Mavericks are back at home to play the Golden State Warriors. Call it a revenge game for the loss that they experienced earlier this month at the Warriors' house, but either way, the Mavericks need this win to keep the Phoenix Suns off their backs and their playoff spot intact. At least the Mavs can come into this game fully rested and they certainly needed it, especially with the injuries that they have faced as of late.
"It was good," said Dallas Head Coach Rick Carlisle of the break. "It's an unusual period to have one at this time of year, but it allowed us to get some rest and some work in with the unit. Hopefully we'll be able to regain some of the edge, but we'll find out tonight obviously."
Erik Dampier's status remains a little clouded after Carlisle said his status was a "I think so, but I don't know. We'll see." Apparently Carlisle likes to keep his audience in suspense, so like he said, we'll see. Josh Howard, of course, is still out, but the 'Josh Watch' continues for when he does come back.
On the other side of the arena, Golden State Head Coach Don Nelson confirmed Corey Magette will not play tonight, and Stephen Jackson will be starting in his place.
Nelson also gave some interesting insight toward the playoffs for the Western Conference, commenting on the injuries that numerous teams have faced, including the Mavs.
"I think everybody is trying to get their team at full strength; they are trying to rest their guys to be at their best, as they should be. Everybody that is going through that, including you guys with Josh Howard, is at a disadvantage... Not everybody is as strong as they would hope to be and I think that is true throughout the league with Denver being the only exception that I can see."
Well, hopefully Dallas doesn't allow unfortunate injuries to hold them back from making some kind of noise in this game. The Suns have won five in a row, so they are definitely putting the pressure on the Mavs. In the words of Carlisle, "we'll see."
**************Erik Dampier did start, as did Jason "Jet" Terry
