colin in oregon:
is raefer alston to portland possible?
Bill Ingram:
Good Morning, Everyone, and welcome to the chat!
It's possible . . .2009-2010 is non-guaranteed for Alston. I actually spoke to Otis Smith late in the season and he said the plan was to have both Rafer and Jameer in the mix next season. That was before he led them to the NBA Finals, so I'm guessing that feeling is even stronger now.
Tommy in Memphis, TN:
The answer to the Memphis/Rubio AND the Stoudemire/Phoenix problems is simple: A trade that has Memphis getting Beasley, Miami getting Stoudemire (extended), and Phoenix getting the Rubio, Blount, Buckner, & Miami's 2nd round pick. What do you think?
Bill Ingram:
While I see where you're coming from, the HEAT aren't giving up Beasley . . .not for a guy who doesn't play defense. Riley would never tolerate that . . .
Tommy in Memphis, TN:
What do you think of this deal: Memphis gets Martell Webster/Travis Outlaw/#24 pick, Portland gets Mike Conley. Portland gets their PG of the future and Oden's best friend. Memphis gets great, much needed depth.
Bill Ingram:
The Grizzlies aren't trading Conley, and KP isn't interested in Conley. That rumor's been floated a number of times because of the Oden-Conley connection. Conley isn't an improvement over Blake . . .
Adrian in Romania:
Do you think the magic can force a comeback and win the championship?
Bill Ingram:
I think all those missed free throws buried them confidence-wise. You can't have a team on the mat and then let them up and expect to recover mentally. The Lakers are too experienced . . .
Paolo in Manila:
Do you think orlando will become dynasty?
Bill Ingram:
You have to win a title to be a dynasty. They certainly looked good until the Finals, but too often we've seen a team get to the Finals, lose, and the struggle to get back there. See: Dallas Mavericks. All the pieces were there and they just couldn't get it done. The Magic have all the pieces if they bring back Hedo, but they still have to prove they belong.
Nolan in Winnipeg:
Hey Bill, how's things?
You've already answered a ton of Raptor questions for me, but until the season starts, I need more answers!
Are the Raps drafting a PG or a SG?
Bill Ingram:
Hey Nolan! Always happy to talk Raps. We've been told they're looking for depth at the two, so my gut tells me they go with a two in the draft. That could change if they believe they'll get Delfino back next season, as is rumored. Maybe you take a chance on Brandon Jennings . . .but as of today I think they'll go 2 . . .with DeRozan.
Nolan in Winnipeg:
Here's a question you've never been asked before:
What is the Raptors REAL logo? They've got the black and red 3 fingered claw and the old school purple cartoon Raptor. I'm sick of the purple and want it to go away!
Bill Ingram:
At least it's not Barney any more . . .they need Spielberg's team to design them a logo that's worthy of the velociraptors . . .vicious!
Nolan in Winnipeg:
DeRozan = Joey Graham???
Bill Ingram:
Hard to say . . .DeRozan has a lot of work to do . . .
Nolan in Winnipeg:
What's the situation with Parker and Delfino and the Raptors, any updates? Does their situation depend on the draft? Or vise-versa?
Bill Ingram:
BC told us he plans to have Parker back . . .
Mike in Toronto:
How much money do you think the nba lost on making all those jermaine o'neal raptor and a.i piston jerseys??
Bill Ingram:
I'm sure they'll MORE than make up for it with Lakers championship gear . . .
Cyril bittar in :
I have two questions. With time do you honestly see a major improvement in howards offensive game?if the magic end up beating the lakers in game 5 and 6, would they still have the energy to pull a legendary accomplishment?
Bill Ingram:
It's all about how much Dwight is willing to work. Some player reach the level where Dwight is and they get comfortable. Dwight is the second-best center in the NBA . . .is he really happy with that? Does he have the desire to be the best? He needs to take things a little more seriously if he's going to truly dominate the game, and I think he can do it. A couple of years ago his stated goal was to lead the league in rebounds. He did that. Now he needs to make the decision to be the most dominant offensive force in the NBA. He has the tools, he just has to put in the work.
joe in :
I hear the lakers are trying to sell/trade their first round pick. How about these scenarios: Lakers #29 to Detroit for #36 and #44. Lakers #29 to Portland for #32, #55, and #56. #29, Sasha Vujacic and Adam Morrison to Minnesota for Mike Miller.
Bill Ingram:
The only part of that that makes sense to me is the Miller deal. I don't know why the Wolves would do it, and Miller is actually very happy in Minny (surprisingly), but I can see why the Lakers would want that deal.
Eldad in Sarajevo:
Why is it OK to knock a player if he is
trying to score when the game is already
decided? What's it got to do with
"respect"? Why should a player respect
his opponent? What's wrong in adding a
few points to your boxscore?
Bill Ingram:
It's one of those unspoken rules . . .remember what an uproar is caused when Vujacic did that early in the season? You should always respect your opponent. You only earn respect if you give it.
sean in san antonio:
which players are the spurs interested in for the draft?
Bill Ingram:
It would be easier to find out who hired the shooters who killed President Kennedy. No one in San Antonio talks about anything. Their scouts can lose their jobs if they talk to anyone at all. I've heard they will sell the pick now that Casspi is out of the mix . . .and I think they only wanted him so they could defer the pick like they did with Scola and a list of others.
nikelas in Pearland, TX:
Any Rockets inside info?
Bill Ingram:
They reached out to the Grizzlies to inquire about the #2 pick . . .Thabeet could replace Mutombo . . .
Kenny in Chicago:
Toronto:Deng,T.Thomas,Ty.Thomas/ Bulls: Bosh, Douby, future pick/ #'s Work, Toronto: gets replacemnt fowards for Marion and Bosh,2010 expiring contract, Deng with max deal/ Bulls: Rose and Bosh (nothing else 2 say)
Bill Ingram:
We have it on good authority that Deng is untouchable. . .Marion will re-up with the Raps.
no name in :
the raps said they have narrowed the draft down to like 4 people or sumtin. Who do you think those players are?
Bill Ingram:
I know DeRozan is one of them . . .they'd love to have Harden, but he'll be long gone . . .they've taken a long look at Holiday, too . . .
Darius F. in Atlanta, Ga:
How u doin Bill I'm a Nuggs fan wat do u think dey need fo win it all next year I wanna see dem get Melo old Syracuse buddy Hakiem Warrick nd fina a way 2 get Johnny Flynn 2 b da future after Billups wuld dat put dem ova da top
Bill Ingram:
I don't think they can get Flynn . . .he's in demand. I think they re-sign Birdman, Jones, and maybe Kleiza. When you have a team that's that close to being in the Finals you don't want to mess with too much. The Nuggets are very cap-poor, so they'll need a trade to help with free agency.
sunny pacasum in moro state:
bill any rockets rumors? DRAFT ?TRADES? anything pls do update us...
Bill Ingram:
They're working on getting a draft pick in the first round, pushing for a lottery pick. Then they plan to re-sign Artest and Wafer before they do much else. They definitely want a center and a 2 this summer . . .McGrady will be traded if they can find a taker.
edgar doss in china guangzong:
if the rockets played with a complete lineup this season would they be able 2 defeat the lakers in game 7? and how many games would it take them to dispose the magic in the finals?
Bill Ingram:
They would have had LA in 6 if Yao had been healthy. Add a starting 2 . . .the Magic really weren't prepared mentally for the Finals. Houston in 4 again. Looking forward to Houston/LA next year. :))
Alec in Baltimore:
WASH in: Amare, Webster.
PHO in: Outlaw, Bayless, McGee, Jamison.
POR in: #5, #14, Barbosa, cash.
Wiz get a superstar. Phoenix rebuilds. Portland clears cap/crud.
Bill Ingram:
The Blazers aren't parting with Bayless . . .I like the Jamison for Stoudemire trade. That's been proposed by a few people. Jamison is a much better player for the Suns . . .plays defense, for one thing. I do believe Amar'e will be traded once he recovers from his eye injury.
Bill in Boston:
Ray Allen and Leon Powe (Portland accepts him even though he's injured) for #24, Webster, and Outlaw. This works out in the long run for the Blazers, and helps Boston now...
Bill Ingram:
Except Portland loses two of their three SF's . . . Ray Allen plays the same position as Brandon Roy . . .You just brought in two guys who play the same position as your superstar . . .Paul Pierce . . .I'd like to see Ray Allen in Houston . . .
Dale in San Antonio, TX:
The rights to Splitter, Kurt Thomas, and cash for Outlaw and Blake.
Bill Ingram:
The Blazers need a 4, and Kurt would be a solid veteran addition. But Blake? Hard to see that. Portland still needs a starting PG. There would have to be a subsequent deal.
John in Osh-Kosh:
#10 and Redd to Washington for Butler, McGee, and #5? I think the Bucks would look good with Jennings, Butler, and R-Jeff as a back-court.
Bill Ingram:
No doubt - that's an awesome deal for the Bucks . . .but they're not shopping Redd . . .
Mike in Dallas, TX:
JET, #22, and cash to Portland for Outlaw, Blake, and a future 1st.
Bill Ingram:
Blake would actually be better for the Mavs than Kidd, since they can't seem to address their glaring need at the two. Kidd doesn't have enough targets on the offensive end. Problem is, you still don't have a two in this deal. Jet's better than Outlaw . . .and Portland's first rounder won't be a top 20 pick.
NuggZ in :
who do you think the nuggets would pick this draft and will the nuggets trade k-mart if there are suitors?
Bill Ingram:
With no first round pick and a team that's built to win now, I don't think their draft matters all that much. And no, I don't think they trade Martin. That's a special group - keep them together.
joey in minnesota:
#6, #18, #28, Miller, Love, and a future first to Portland for Aldridge and Outlaw...
Bill Ingram:
Read my lips . . .Portland's not trading Aldridge . . .and they don't want all those picks.
colin in oregon:
with the PG situation in orlando. do you think the magic would be willing to trade rafer for outlaw and sergio? blake + rafer = one damn good PG
Bill Ingram:
Not if they're going to re-sign Hedo . . .which they're saying they will . . .and Otis is saying he'll keep Rafer . . .
hakeem "the dream" in nigeria:
hi bill every1 saying houston is 1 piece away to getting a chapionship...who do you think is the missing piece for them to win it next year?
Bill Ingram:
Honestly? Ray Allen. Imagine that . . .
colin in oregon:
do you think the spurs would trade portland bonner and a 2nd rounder for outlaw?
Bill Ingram:
Bonner's their starting center . . .so I don't see it . . .
joey dorsey in texas houston:
will my game improve next year? where do u see my game going in years to come? how about wafers game? and brooks? also james white game ....the nba has to see him fly....his a sure winner for next years slam dunk contest!!!!
Bill Ingram:
Wafer and Brooks were fantastic this season . . .Dorsey never even got onto the court . . .even when the team had no other centers to play against LA. I've asked about him and the company line is they like his potential, but he had better work very hard this summer. James White is in exactly the same boat. He's not someone they believe will be a factor next season.
colin in oregon:
what do you think of portland sending outlaw to washington for andre blatche and a 2nd rounder? what about outlaw straight up for songaila?
Bill Ingram:
I think you're in a big hurry to trade Outlaw . . .LOL . . .
bai ameenah in china:
who will improve his game the most next season? aron brooks? von wafer? joey dorsey? james white? what should each player add in der game?
Bill Ingram:
Brooks will emerge the way Rondo did this season. Wafer will be solid again. Not sure we see much of the other two.
colin in oregon:
out of these vet PF's who would fit the blazers style of play the best. wilcox, juwan howard, joe smith, gooden, mcdyess, sean marks, or stromile swift?
Bill Ingram:
Stromile Swift . . .thanks for the belly-laugh! . . .If those are my choices, I'm going with Joe Smith. He's a fabulous locker room guy and would add toughness to Aldridge.
michael in australia:
Do you see Fysenko or Koufos playing a major role for the Jazz next season. Koufos especially did a decent job when Okur was out earlier this season.
Bill Ingram:
I think Koufos, yes, but not Fesenko. I'm not even sold they bring him back, though they're talking about it.
Cory in Aurora, IL:
Do you think being traded diminishes a star's perception. If Shaq goes to the Cavs, that's five teams for O'Neal--or four teams willing to let him go.
Bill Ingram:
Well, he went to the Finals with three of them and won the title with two. If he were to be traded again and won another title, it's just proof he could come up big for a variety of teams. Don't expect to see Shaq in Cleveland, though . . .
Brian in Orlando:
Hedo (s&t), Alston, and a future 1st to Portland for Przybilla, Outlaw, and Blake.
Bill Ingram:
Interesting . . .I don't think you let Hedo go. It's tough to get that chemistry back. But that's an interesting idea. Joel would be nice next to Dwight.
Billy Jack in New Jersey:
Vince Carter, #11, and a future first to Charlotte for Bell and Okafor.
Bill Ingram:
Charlotte's looking for a big, so I don't think you get a deal without including one . . .
Johnny in Cleveland:
Pavlovic/Wallace for Shaq. Then... Gibson/Ilgauskas/#30/cash for Przybilla/Outlaw/Blake/Webster.
Bill Ingram:
Y'all don't quite seem to grasp just how special a team has to be to get to the Conference Finals. You're not going to blow up the Cavs and then expect to have that same success next season. It just doesn't work that way . . .
Sol in Salt Lake City, UT:
Harpring, Okur, Korver, #20 to Portland for Przybilla, Outlaw, Webster, Blake. Followed by: Boozer to Miami for Haslem and Beasley.
Bill Ingram:
Gives the Jazz way too many SF's . . .and their entire offense is geared around the mis-matches Okur creates . . .plus, I don't think Miami gives up Beasley . . .
matt in orlando:
Alston, Battie, and a future first to Dallas for Jason Terry.
Bill Ingram:
Jason Terry would be amazing for the Magic. What Dallas needs, though, is a shooting guard. You're not getting Jason Terry unless you have a legit starting two to offer in trade.
Hugh in Toronto:
Bosh to GS for Biedrins, Wright, #7, and cash.
Bill Ingram:
Bryan Colangelo is far too smart to make that move.
Kyle in Dallas:
Terry, Howard, future picks, and cash to Phoenix for Nash and Barbosa. Followed by Kidd (s&t) to Portland for Webster and Blake. Dirk gets his best friend back, Mavs get something for Kidd and get rid of Howard.
Bill Ingram:
I'd have to spend half an hour seeing if those numbers work, but taking it as you've laid it out . . .it's not bad. Keep in mind the odds of the Suns dealing with the Mavs are basically ZERO. Sarver and Cuban have a hate-hate relationship.
Ben in New York:
Is it true that Portland is trying to trade up for Stephen Curry?
Bill Ingram:
Nothing surprises me when it comes to Kevin Pritchard . . .you know he wants a PG, and rest assured he'll get one. Still, a rookie PG when he already had Bayless on the bench? Seems a little hard to believe.
Jade Wilson in Arizona:
Hey bill any hope the suns get the shaq to cavs trade before the draft?
Eric in Porto Alegre/Brazil:
If Portland sent Bayless, Webster and Frye to PHX for Nash and drafted Hansbrough to backup Aldrige, would they be closer to a championship than with their current team?
Bill Ingram:
I think so . . .Nash with Roy and Aldridge would be contenders . . .but Kp says he's not dealing Bayless.
Will in Orlando:
If Detroit goes after Turk, what about a sign n trade for Hamilton, then sign R.Wallace for the MLE.Nelson,Hamilton,Lewis,Wallace,Dwight.Thats a legit Championship contender with experience.
Bill Ingram:
I'd much rather keep Hedo . . .better for chemistry, and Hedo has more years left in his prime.
Jade Wilson in Arizona:
Hey Bill is it likely that the suns trade shaq and Amare? If so who plays the four? Will then will there be a chance to draft a d blair or earl clark?
Bill Ingram:
Amar'e . . .yes. That Chicago deal that almost happened isn't dead. Tyrus Thomas at the 4? But not sood . . .Amar'e's eye is still very much a concern.
Otis Smith in Disney World:
If Turk asks for to much do you think Utah would bite on this sign n trade Turkoglu,Pietrus for Boozer?
Bill Ingram:
No chance . . .why give up Pietrus? The way he competed against Kobe? I wouldn't give up both of them. Boozer needs to show me he can stay healthy before I blow up a Finals team to get him.
Saulo in MN:
What do you think: Curry at 6th, Mullens at 18th (if not there than Henderson or clark) and at 28th Sam Young. If all falls into place, we get all our needs from the draft..
Bill Ingram:
That's a solid list of guys . . .Curry's gone at 6, but you can get another good young PG.
Saulo in MN:
Who fits better with the wolves, Flynn or Curry? Curry can spread the floor...
Will Sam Young fall to 28th? The guy is a beast at 24 he's ready to contribute I believe..
Bill Ingram:
Most of the guys I've talked to are high on Flynn . . .but I don't think you can go wrong either way. And yes, Young should be there at 28.
Robin Lopez in PHX:
If we draft Mullens, is he to come in and replace me? Or play the 4 spot so we can trade shaq and amare.. I think we complement each other nicely.. great fit!
Bill Ingram:
That's a lottery team, though, and Sarver can't afford that. Kerr said whoever they draft won't play much this season.
Jordan in Colleyville, Texas:
I heard a rumor about Emeka Okafor to Dallas. Any truth? Maybe we can get Emeka and Wallace.
Bill Ingram:
It was a "what if," not a rumor based upon inside info . . .I don't think Charlotte gives up either one of those guys . . .
Cain in New Zealand:
Who has interest in Zach Randolph? Can Davis, Gordon and Griffin rescue this franchise?
Bill Ingram:
I think you're far more likely to move Camby. Z-Bo is a very good offensive player, but he doesn't do enough on the other end to justify his contract. Camby's ending deal would be worth a lot to a number of teams . . .including Houston, if they don't get their first or second choice - Gortat, Thabeet.
Cain in New Zealand:
Who will be the 1st option on offense in Clipper-Nation Gordon Davis Thornton or Randolph?
Bill Ingram:
LOL . . .Baron Davis is always the first choice on any team he's on . . .
Wayne E. in NC:
How come there are so many people doubting me? I put up good numbers, good size for my position.. why am I falling to the second round when there are teams like (Mavs, NO, MN, OKC) who i'd fit very well into rotation..
Bill Ingram:
I'd be shocked if Ellington fell to the second round . . .we've heard that several teams in the 20's are considering drafting him . . .
David Kahn in MN:
I like Curry, Clark and really have no need for the 28th.. assuming I get these two. What can a package of the 28th + the 2 2nd round picks get me?
Bill Ingram:
You'd have to move up to get Curry, of course, but Clark should be there at 18 . . .there are a number of teams trying to get into the first round, but they're unlikely to want those second rounders . . .
Chris in Dallas:
What do you think of Joe Dumars going after David West in a trade? He seems like a much more affordable option that Boozer?
Bill Ingram:
Chris Paul would blow a gasket if that happened . . .and Jeff Bower told me last week they're not trading their key people. He stopped short of saying Chandler was definitely in that group, but there's no doubt West is.
Kyle in :
Your top 5 favorite movies are...
Bill Ingram:
Just 5? You don't understand how much I love movies. I'll give it a shot.
1) Star Wars (original trilogy)
2) Field of Dreams
3) The American President
4) The Shawshank Redemption
5) Indiana Jones (original trilogy)
Bonus Round - Favorite recent movies: The Dark Knight, The Secret Life of Bees, WALL-E, Religulous, and Appaloosa, and Star Trek (easily the best movie of 2009 to date).
Dude in l.a:
Phil coached the 2 best SG of all time..maybe the 2 best players..At the end of his career will kobe be remembered as a top 3 all-time player? JVG said you can argue Kobe is as great as jordan..thoughts?
Bill Ingram:
Jeff made a strong case last night, and remember a few weeks ago John Lucas told me the same thing and people couldn't ridicule him fast enough. Kobe is every bit as good as Jordan, and this is coming from someone who was rooting for Orlando and has never been a fan of the Lakers. Always respected them, but not being from LA I've never been a fan. So I can say with almost complete neutrality that I believe Kobe is as good as MJ. He only needs two more rings to silence anyone who would say otherwise.
By the way - they need to change that puppet commercial. "My four championship rings!"
Chris in Dallas:
What are the top 3-4 teams that have a best shot at Gortat?
Bill Ingram:
Orlando, Houston, Sacramento, New York . . .
Saulo in MN:
Draft lottery: 1-Griffin
2-Thabeet
3-Harden
4-Rubio
5-Evans
6-Curry
7-Flynn
8-Holidae
9-DeRozan
10-Hill
11-Blair
12-Henderson
13-Jennings
14-Johnson,Mullens or Clark..thoughts?
Bill Ingram:
I do my top 5, as everything after that is almost completely up in the air.
1) Griffin
2) Traded . . .to a team that takes Harden
3) Thabeet
4) Rubio
5) Curry
Kenny in Denver:
Amare and #14 to Portland for Oden, Outlaw, Bayless, and Webster. Portland creates a dynamic duo of Aldridge/Amare in the front court, and Phoenix rebuilds...
Bill Ingram:
Portland's not moving Oden, especially for Amar'e, who won't defend. And again, the Blazers aren't trading Bayless. They had quite a few deals on the table at the deadline this year, but in each case teams insisting on getting Bayless killed them.
Blake in Dallas:
Good read Saturday night about the Mavs and Bobcats. Is Dampier, Howard, and Stackhouse for Okafor, Wallace, and Radmonovich to much of a pipedream? The Cats get a SF and C, dump long term salary, and can sign AI to play the 2.
Bill Ingram:
While that's a solid idea, and I'd love to see it from a Mavs' perspective, I do think it's a pipedream. I know there's been a lot of talk about Charlotte dealing Gerald Wallace, but I've been told time after time by the Cats that it simply isn't happening. He's their MVP, and everyone in Dallas knows you don't want Josh Howard carrying that label . . .
Marcus in Milwaukee,WI:
How will Scott Skiles find playing time for Luc Mbah a Moute and Joe Alexander and Richard Jefferson next season do one of them have to get traded.
Bill Ingram:
He'll play RJ and Luc quite a bit . . .Joe Alexander better like that spot on the bench he called home last season. I know they're not trading RJ or Luc . . .they would probably part with Joe for the right price, meaning cap space.
Steven in Sheboygan:
Who are the Bucks hope to fall to them and have you talk to anybody in milwaukee front office?
Maurice in Milwaukee,WI:
Now that the Finals are over what are the Lakers & Magic plan for the offseason?
Will Toronto go after Hedo Tuckoglu and Marcin Gortat?
Bill Ingram:
Funny you should ask. My partner Steve Kyler was at the game last night and did an article this morning answering those very questions:
HERE IT IS!
Andrew in San Francisco, CA:
Should the Warriors draft johnny flynn or Brandon Jennings or mabye Jrue Holiday?
Bill Ingram:
I'll tell you this . . .someone's got to get the ball out of Monta's hands . . .
Luke in San Antonio:
Do you think Steph Curry is moving higher in the draft because he demonstrating his ability to play point?
Bill Ingram:
Yep - it has everything to do with the way he's looked in workouts. He's one of the guys who has really helped himself in the last couple of weeks.
Rick in Washington:
Do you think if the Warriors draft Jordan Hill at #7 and trade him with Maggette to Dallas for Stackhouse and Terrance Williams with the 25th pick this would be a good trade?
Bill Ingram:
Doesn't work under the cap . . .I wish it did! That would be awesome for Dallas!
Lon in Boston:
Ray Allen and future draft picks to Phoenix for Jason Richardson.
Bill Ingram:
The Suns have said they want to shift their focus to the defensive end, and Kerr hinted that they'd do it with a roster move or two. He said they'd be "tweaks," so take that as you will. This would be a tweak to me . . .and a good one for both sides. Perk and KG would make up for J-Rich's lack of defense.
Paul in Oakland,CA:
If you are the Warriors would you take Baron Davis back and draft a shooting guard or draft a point guard and not make the trade if offered?
Bill Ingram:
Baron's on the block, and he was certainly the heart of that team . . .I'd consider it . . .
michael in australia:
So do Memphis get a few million $$ from the Lakers now?? Seems they should get at least some sort of recognition of how they contributed to the Lakers win.
Bill Ingram:
Give Pau a lot of credit. When he was traded he had this big "soft" label on his back . . .he was incredible in the Finals. Incredible.
ron in nc:
Can u see beasley being traded to another team beside the rap
Bill Ingram:
I don't see him being traded at all . . .
colin in oregon:
would the nets consider trading us keyon dooling for outlaw?
Bill Ingram:
Why would Portland want to do that?
krazyclipperfan in Compton, CA:
What moves do you see the clippers making this offseason? Also Dunleavy is looking to aquire a late 1st round pick who will he get that pick from?
Bill Ingram:
Sounds like they're willing to deal a big, which makes sense given Griffin's arrival. I expect Camby to be delt, though the Clips would rather move the longer-term Kaman contract. I think Chris earned his big pay day and is now overpaid . . .
Jose in :
What do you think of Dallas trying to improve their 5 spot with either Emeka Okafor (who I know is a 5 but would def be a better fit than Damp) or Chris Kaman.
Bill Ingram:
I actually like Kaman quite a bit, despite him being overpaid. And hey - he and Dirk are both Germans! (LOL) Kaman's offensive skills would be a radical improvement over Damp.
Jose in Philippines:
Also, how do you think the Mavs will use the MLE this time? To keep their role players (Singleton, Hollins, Green) or do they sign a sign a vet?
Bill Ingram:
I definitely think they'll keep Hollins and Singleton. I love GG, but he's probably gone. What the Mavs really need is a starting two . . .repeat after me . . .a starting two. I say it every year, and they never get one.
Will in Orlando:
Would anyone take on Rashard Lewis 118 mil contract? Please somebody!
Bill Ingram:
Ummm . . .why? He was the best player on the team until the last two games, when the Lakers focused all of their defensive attention on him.
rocketman in houston rockets:
the rockets could have won the finals if yao played...sigh
Bill Ingram:
Injuries are part of the game . . .winning a championship is more than having great players - it's also a lot about being lucky enough for them to all be healthy at the right time. If KG were healthy, do the Celtics repeat?
Ian in Sacramento, CA:
Kenny Thomas has a pretty large expiring contract. I never hear any possible trade rumors. Couldn't the Kings pick up a pretty valuable piece for Thomas' expiring contract? Any thoughts on who it could be?
Bill Ingram:
The Kings have been trying to move Kenny for some time. He's in shape, ready to play, but his attitude has kept him on the bench. We've talked about it many times. Yes, now that his contract is an expiring deal, I expect him to be moved, though probably not until the deadline.
jazzfan in Sofia:
Best Jazz trade Offseason 2009/2010? Rumors?
Bill Ingram:
It will be the sign-and-trade for Boozer that lands them the cap space they need to take care of Millsap and Korver. Okur's saying he won't opt out. They probably keep Collins around for defensive purposes, though he's no threat to score at all. He should come cheap. I'll be catching up with O'Connor soon, so stay tuned.
argie grigorakos in toronto, ontario, canada:
hey bill, after watching the finals im wondering how far r the bulls from becoming a championship contender? which players would u look to add?
Bill Ingram:
I think you keep Ben Gordon and the core intact. I believe they'll make a trade involving one of their front court players this summer, but honestly, I let this team come back and see if they can build on the success they had in the first round. They're really just experience away from becoming contenders . . . Rose, Thomas, Noah, Deng, Hinrich - it's a solid foundation.
colin in :
would por do this? sign and trade with phoenix.frye for hill? then if need be we could use webster as a trade piece to get the PG we want? bc lets face it the suns need bigs and we need vets. proly not the best trade but it could happen
Bill Ingram:
Grant said he'd retire if he was traded. I think he'd go to Orlando, which is his home, but otherwise I don't think you see him sent anywhere.
Jake in New York:
Are the Lakers the team of the decade? Spurs and Pistons can make an argument, too.
Bill Ingram:
The Spurs are still the team of the decade, but one more title could swing things LA's way. The Spurs did it with the same core group of players. Dynasty, baby.
Eric in Los Angeles:
The Phil Jackson criticisms that he always had the best players make me laugh. What great coach wins a title with mediocre talent? Wasn't Lebron MVP this year? Where's Mike Brown?
Bill Ingram:
Phil has always been very good at picking his teams . . .he was "retired" when the Nets called, but when LA made an offer, all of a sudden he was itching to get back in the game. Phil's a great coach, but he's never been one to build a champion. He takes an already-great team and makes them better. Rick Adelman is a better coach . . .probably the best in the NBA.
jamal in chicago:
heyy bill, big bulls fan here,
1.what do think about an one year contract for ben gordon. the bulls let all doors open for 2010 and Ben is on the market when a lot of teams have space for big contracts.
2.deng a 17/8 player next season???
Bill Ingram:
1) Ben wouldn't agree to a one-year deal. No chance. He's going to sign a significant five-year deal with someone this summer. The Bulls are hoping it's with them.
2) Deng is one of the most under-appreciated players in the league. Imagine how good they would have been with him healthy in the first round! They'd have beaten Boston. (see my previous note about injuries)
WillieT in Landers, WY:
Do you see the Nuggs buying into the first round, since they
saved money giving away Camby and giving up their first
rounder for a luxury pay out?
Bill Ingram:
They traded away the first round pick to OKC because they didn't want to lock in a salary slot from the lottery. If they trade on draft day, it will likely be second round. They don't want a first round pick from what we've been told unless they just fell in love with someone - like at 29, where the Lakers are selling their pick. It's highly unlikely, though. Last year they deferred their first rounder to Charlotte for a future first rounder. They trust their staff to develop young guys down the line. They're chasing a title - a rookie doesn't help that.
Nolan in Winnipeg:
Jump 8 weeks into the 2009/10 season. The Raptors are off to a terrible start. Bosh is still sticking to his plan of not resigning, at least until the season's over. How good does the offer have to be to get BC's ok?
Bill Ingram:
Very good . . .Chris Bosh is considered a top-tier NBA talent . . .you're not getting him cheap.
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
Are you hearing any trade rumors involving my Wolves?
Bill Ingram:
I've heard a bunch of rumors, yes, but given the state of their front office I'm not putting much stock in rumors about Minny at this point.
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
Do you see my Wolves dealing Miller this summer?
Bill Ingram:
Mike wants to stay put. Of course, so did Joe Smith . . .if the offer's right - and contenders need what he brings - they'd move him.
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
Any truth to the rumor of my Wolves dealing with the Grizz for the second pick?
Bill Ingram:
Haven't heard that one. I know Houston, NY, and Boston have called the Grizz.
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
Any truth to the rumor of my Wolves dealing Love and the #6 pick to Memphis for Conley and #2?
Bill Ingram:
Not if McHale is staying. Love is practically his son. There isn't a Kevin Love replacement who they could grab at #2 . . .and Hollins absolutely loves Conley. I'd be surprised if they moved him.
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
Do you see McHale returning to the bench in Minny?
Bill Ingram:
Given that talks are ongoing, perhaps. When they were through Dallas I talked to McHale about it and he was pretty set on not coaching. The travel was really taking its toll on him.
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
Who do you see my Wolves selecting with their sixth pick?
Bill Ingram:
Jonny Flynn or Tyreke Evans . . .think PG
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
How high are my Wolves on DeRozan and Evans?
Bill Ingram:
Not so much on DeRozan . . .
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
What are the chances of my Wolves taking Flynn at #6?
Bill Ingram:
If he's there, a very good chance!
Barry in Miami:
With the 44th pick of the NBA Draft the Miami Heat selects...
Bill Ingram:
Someone who won't play in the NBA for years . . .if ever.
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
Could Mullens fall to my Wolves at #18?
Bill Ingram:
Not much chance of that . . .
Steve Kerr in Phoenix, AZ:
Hmm, so the Shaq Cleveland trade sounds
very tempting. It could save me tons of
cash. But if I buy out Big Ben who will
start at Center?
Bill Ingram:
Robin Lopez . . .LOL . . .which is why that rumor makes no sense whatsoever.
The Diesel in Suns town:
So, now that Kobe got another ring to his
collection, its time for me to do some work
and answer back with another ring of my own
. Would playing with LBJ achieve my final
dream?
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
Will Al Jefferson be fully recovered by the start of training camp?
Bill Ingram:
Yes . . .they're looking forward to seeing Al and K-Love go through another camp together.
David Stern in NY:
So, whose name will I most likely read out
with the Sun's 14th pick?
Bill Ingram:
Someone who might not make a lot of sense. Kerr told us they'll draft someone who they won't need to use. Maybe a third PG. They're not completely sold on Dragic, obviously.
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
Who has the highest ceiling between DeRozan, Evans, Jennings and Holiday?
Bill Ingram:
Jennings has an incredible set of skills . . .if he can bring that to the NBA level, he could be truly incredible.
Kevin in Belleville, NJ:
Does Tyler Hansborough look to be a legitimate option for the Bulls at 16
Bill Ingram:
They're pretty loaded in the front court, and that might be a little high for Tyler. I'd expect them to go for a wing . . .maybe a 2 in case they lose Gordon.
Nolan in Winnipeg:
Hey Bill, a reliable source wrote the Raps are keeping the 9th,
possibly buying a second 1st round pick and are in trade talks.
Do you know what kind of trades they are looking at now?
Bill Ingram:
They're active, yes. They'll look at a two with #9 . . .They were looking for size, but got that in the Evans trade. Now they need to replace Kapono. I expect a draft day deal from the Raps . . .
Jade Wilson in Arizona:
Hey Bill what do you see as more likely shaq to cavs or shaq to bulls
Bill Ingram:
Neither . . .the Suns aren't dealing Shaq. They'll deal Amar'e when he gets healthy.
G-Man in ATL:
Who do you see the hawks aquiring in the offseason? What about the Josh Chilldress situation?
Bill Ingram:
Josh recently said he's not coming back to the NBA this summer. I'm catching up with Rick Sund soon to feel out his plans for the offseason, so stay tuned.
Dave in Detroit, Michigan:
Hey Bill. So in your opinion who do you see the Pistons getting? Through free agency and trades? Keep up the good work.
Bill Ingram:
They're looking for a 3/4 type of player. Daye was rumored to be of interest to them, but his stock is falling quickly. Earl Clark is certainly on their radar, and if DeJaun Blair were to happen to fall to Detroit, they'd probably be very happy to land him. Maybe even BJ Mullens, though that might be a stretch.
Corey in Tyler, Tx:
Do you think Dallas can swap Dampier for Hamilton, under the conditions that DET go after Ben Gordon? And any news on the Mavs offseason moves, FA..Trades..Etc?
Bill Ingram:
The problem with rumors out of Dallas is that Donnie Nelson is full of . . . um . . .misinformation. I know they really, really hope to get Marcus Thornton in the first round, but have also been told he'll be gone before they get to pick. You can't make a trade with conditions about a subsequent deal. I'd love to see Rip in Dallas or Houston . . .he'd make Houston true contenders, if they're not already. He'd be the 2 the Mavs have needed for the past 3 years.
Brad Kollar in Losetta:
With the season over, who will make the jump from good player to all-star? Some candidates I can think of are Rondo Turk Aldridge. Who will become a superstar? I think Rose Durant and Granger. Your thoughts?
Bill Ingram:
Durant and Granger, no question. Those guys are going to be the next generation of elites, along with LeBron. Rondo's a good call, I'd also say Aldridge has that potential. He was crazy good in the playoffs.
moe in :
I think the raps should get rid of CB4 right now while they can get something in return, they shouldnt resign Marion and should let go of Chris, lets give him his wish and send him to Miami for beasley, Haslem and a 1st, what do u think?
Bill Ingram:
The Raps' plan is to re-sign Marion and Parker, draft a 2 with potential, and then continue to look for depth in free agency. They were very, very good at season's end, and want to build on that success.
Jeff in What happened to my Sonics?:
Adam Morrison and Jordan Farmar to New York for Jared Jeffries? What do you think about that trade (assuming both teams agree to it)?
Bill Ingram:
Ironically, your Sonics left for pastures that aren't nearly as green as Seattle. :)
Farmar is still the Lakers' heir apparent to Fisher . . .I don't think they deal him.
Kris in Ontario:
Do you see Orlando pursuing a REAL power forward this offseason? I was kicking around the idea with some friends that the Magic might be better off to let Hedo go and sign David Lee. A Lee/Howard/Lewis line is very good...
Bill Ingram:
You're on the right track. I'm not sure they can afford Lee, but the Magic would set records for rebounding. It's also important for them to be able to move Lewis to the 3 more often.
Zeke in Flagstaff:
I don't think LA will be able to sign both Ariza and Odom... Who do you think they will sign?
Bill Ingram:
If Kobe insists, they'll make it happen. Don't break up a champion - let them have a shot at repeating. Ariza was incredibly important to their success.
Buck in San Diego:
The Clips should get out of LA right now. Griffin deserves to play in a market that isn't already dominated by another NBA team. He won't want to stay in LA for long... at least not with the Clips.
Bill Ingram:
Or maybe he's the one who leads them out of their dark time? Clippers fans can hope . . .
Phil in LA:
And you picked the magic to win it all. What were you thinking???
Bill Ingram:
I was thinking they didn't choke in the face of LeBron and the league's best regular season team, so they wouldn't choke against Kobe and the Lakers, either. I was wrong. They choked big time . . .and the Lakers rose to the ocassion. Well-deserved championship!
Ben in Oklahoma City:
Would Dallas trade Dirk to OKC for #3, Collison, and Watson?
Bill Ingram:
The only player Cuban would trade Dirk for is Kobe Bryant. He'd be run out of town on a rail if he traded the best PF in the game for scrubs and a draft pick.
Will in Orlando:
I would love for the Magic to sign Rasheed or Mcdyess in the offseason, slide lewis at sf and Turk at the sg.
Bill Ingram:
McDyess is exactly what they need . . .exactly.
Don't Worry Bout it in :
If the Magic can't re-sign Hedo, what about signing Trevor
Ariza? He is a great defender and has greatly improved his
three point shooting (obviously a must-have for the Magic).
Also, he could be the slasher we need when dwight gets
doubled!
Bill Ingram:
I don't think the Lakers will let Ariza go . . .
Carey in Virginia:
With the cap space, expiring contracts, and future draft picks the thunder have do you see us making a big trade this offseason?
Bill Ingram:
I don't know about a big trade . . .they have a great core group. If you see a trade, it's likely to be a tweak type of move.
ryan in dallas:
do the Mavs stay at #22? do you think drafting T-Will is going to be a great outcome in the future?
Bill Ingram:
They really want Thornton, but I've been told he'll be gone before 22. Frankly. Williams will be gone, too. Knowing the Mavs, they'll draft a 4th pg.
Tom in Boston, MA:
What will be the market value for Big Baby and Leon Powe?
Bill Ingram:
I don't think they can keep both, and the way Baby played in the playoffs, I'd keep him. Powe has enormous potential, too, and was a factor for them in the championship last season . . .tough to lose one. I don't know what the market will be, but it will be significant.
sunny in toronto:
you think raptors can move down 2 3 spots to grab harden or evans? i like these too. they fit here
Bill Ingram:
They love Harden, but they'd have to move UP to get him. I think he's their top pick in the draft. If they had the #2 pick they'd take Harden.
RJ in :
whats the truth bout the bosh to miami rumor.... ?
Bill Ingram:
Complete nonsense . . .
matt in boston:
in regards to the ray allen to houston trade, i am looking at the salaries on the rockets and i don't see how such a trade would matchup financially. ray allen is on the books for $19m next year. anyone?
Bill Ingram:
I don't see it either, unless the Celtics wanted McGrady's ending deal. But Ray's ending, too, so that doesn't make sense. That was the pie-in-the-sky dream. More likely is someone like Rip Hamilton . . .which would be fine with me, too!
ryan in dallas:
Mavs: Top 10 team who has a chance to win it all with some moves or fading team who will be in the lottery in a few years
Bill Ingram:
I think the Mavs are still Top10 with the right moves this summer. They have 3 more years to win a title with Dirk, but they need one more significant player to get it done.
rs in eugene:
I didn't realize the Blazers were so interested in Ariza. Are tey going to make a play for him? What would it take?
Bill Ingram:
Everyone's interested in Ariza now . . .LOL . . .but I think he stays with Kobe.
ryan in dallas:
Who is the sleeper n the draft not named Sam Young or T WIll? I think it goes to Ridrigue Beaubois
Bill Ingram:
DeMarre Carroll . . .I've heard lots or people talking about how food he's going to be and how no one really seems to understand that.
Thanks for stopping by, everyone. Even after spending a couple of extra hours I didn't get to a lot of your questions. Be sure and get them in early! Luke Byrnes is one of our NCAA experts, and he's chatting this evening. Drop those questions in now by linking here!
See you here next week!
mitch in los angeles, ca:
Do you think Kobe would be willing to opt out of his contract take a slight pay cut but then maybe we can offer him a percentage ownership of the lakers to make up the difference. That way we have some money to resign Ariza and Odom.
Bill Ingram:
NBA bylaws don't allow that . . .MJ had to sell his shares in the Wiz to make his comeback . . .
