Henry in Houston:
WHAT do YOU think the ROCKETS will do on DRAFT day.
Bill Ingram:
Good Morning and welcome to the Chat! Heading of to NY for the Draft tomorrow, so it's going to be an exciting week!
The Rockets are working hard to trade into the first round - have confirmed interest all the way up to pick #2. They're looking for a 2 or a 5, and Harden and Thabeet could be possible targets. Then again, Daryl Morey never does what you expect him to do, so you never really know. We'll be talking about the Rockets on draft day . . .that's my prediction.
Forest in Arrlington texas:
Who do you like better the Rockets or the Mavvz?
Bill Ingram:
I love working with both organizations. First class PR staff and execs. in both cities. I was raised in Houston, so from a fan standpoint, the Rockets will always come first. After the Rockets I like a few teams, including the Mavs . . .
Jarrad in Australia:
Which GM do you personally believe will make the biggest draft day trade?
Bill Ingram:
Kevin Pritchard . . .he's the king of the draft. :)
michael in australia:
Hypothetically, who would have had the better career if it wasn't for unfortunate circumstances? Len Bias, Chris Washburn or Roy Tarpley? Could put Hank Gathers in that conversation too.
Bill Ingram:
The easy answer is Roy Tarpley. He was the only big man in the NBA who could hang with Hakeem . . .that Dallas/Houston rivalry would really have been something if Roy had kept his nose clean . . .literally.
DJ in :
Any chance the nets trade down and get the 19 pick from the hawks? If so, who would the hawks pick?
Bill Ingram:
I'm going with a back-up PG . . .this draft has a ton of them and it seems Acie Law isn't going to work out for Atlanta . . .and yes, I've heard Nj would trade down . . .
Caron Butler in :
Am I being shipped to Atlanta for marvin williams and acie law?
Bill Ingram:
The Wizards aren't breaking up their Big 3 - one more shot to do something special. And no, Marvin and Acie aren't worth Butler.
david in orem utah:
Hey Bill I was wondering what you think my Jazz should do in the draft. I say first round draft Earl Clark or Terrence Will. Then trade up in the second and snag Jeff Adrien (Paul Millsaps twin) or Tony Douglas or even Rodrigue baubous. THANKS
Bill Ingram:
Earl Clark will be long, long gone . . .I like Hansbrough for Jerry Sloan's system . . .and second round, yes Douglas would be a nice pick-up!
david in orem utah:
What do you think Cavs will do this offseason? i don't want VC on our team, I'd rather get Charlie Vill.
Bill Ingram:
I don't subscribe to the whole 'add another MVP' chatter. A piece like CV makes a lot of sense . . .he could guard Hedo Turkoglu, which is what the Cavs need to think about as they prepare for next season. I also don't believe Ben Wallace will actually retire . . .not for a second.
david in orem utah:
Why does everyone say that CP3 is way better then D-Will? I watch D-Will do the same stuff that CP3 does every night. i think they are the two best and you can't put an order because D-Will eats CP3's lunch when they play Vs. each other
Bill Ingram:
They're the 2 best PG's in the NBA . . .no question. I go back and forth in terms of which is better, and it's usually the one I'm watching. :)
Kenny in Washington:
Hey Bill! What do you think about this trade? Nets trade Vince Carter and Sean Williams to the Wizards for the #5, Etan Thomas and filler (Mike James?). Wizards draft DeRozan, Hill or Harden (if he's there) for the Nets.
Bill Ingram:
Interesting . . .you add Vince to Jamison, Butler, and Arenas . . .that sounds like a championship team if they all get along!
Hedo Turkoglu in Orlando:
Where do you think that I'll end up?
Bill Ingram:
You love Orlando too much to leave, and they're going to PAY you.
Adrian in Atlanta:
Do you think that Portland would be willing to part with Bayless in order to get Hedo?
Bill Ingram:
Absolutely not . . .Bayless goes nowhere . . .
Kermit in Baconita:
Which PF do you see the Magic targeting through either free agency or trade? McDyess or Bass perhaps?
Bill Ingram:
I don't know about Bass . . .he's a good guy, but I don't know if he's a champion. McDyess is a proven veteran who knows how to win. That would be my pick.
Jameer & Rafer in Orlando:
Do you keep arguably the best PG tandem in the NBA or do you keep one and trade the other? (Jameer & Rafer)
Bill Ingram:
It's probably too much of a luxury to have a starting PG on your bench when you need to re-sign Hedo and perhaps Marcin. I think you trade Rafer to a team in a deal that give you the cap space to take care of your core guys. Love what Skip did for the Magic, though. They should never have brought Jameer back early.
Dwight Howard in Soulja Boy's Studio:
Hey Bill! What advice would youuuuuuuuuuuuuu! give me to improve my free throw shooting?
Bill Ingram:
There's only one way to improve FT shooting . . .practice, practice, practice.
Oh, and practice.
Head down to IMG with C-Lee and let the coaches there make you an 80% FT shooter. Seriously.
Dwight Howard in Soulja Boy's Studio:
By the way Bill... Do you think that I should have my own puppet?
Bill Ingram:
You are your own puppet . . .LOL
Matthew in Jackson, WY:
Who the Suns should target?? A PG, or a
C?
I'll take a PG, and keep Shaq and Stat
this summer. Then, next year I'll sign
and trade Stat, let Shaq go, and not sure
about Nash (it depends of the new PG).
Then let's rebuild the team!!
Bill Ingram:
Yeah, I think they go PG. Dragic isn't ready . . .
Matthew in Jackson, WY:
Do you think Miami could land Bosh or Stat
next summer?? It could be great!! Chalmers,
Wade, Beasley, Bosh/Stat and a C. Good
begening no?!!!
Bill Ingram:
I think Bosh could be the complement to a champion like Wade. Not sure Amar'e gets you there . . .
O.J. in Iceland:
how good will the blazers be with Kidd at
the point?
Bill Ingram:
They win the West. Kidd would make LA and Roy that much better . . .not to mention Oden, Bayless, and the young guys. He just doesn't have enough offense around him in Dallas.
colin in oregon:
with wade saying miami needs to make aggressive moves before he signs a contract extension. do you think miami would trade haslem for TO, blake, and a couple picks? haslem is content coming off the bench as we have seen before
Bill Ingram:
Considering he said over the weekend that he's ready to sign, I don't know how many huge changes they need to make. That said, Haslem is the kind of player Portland is looking for this summer. Obviously they need a PG in place before they deal Blake.
colin in oregon:
then por could sign kidd and another vet backup PG like lue, hunter, knight, a carter, or whoever. then trade sergio and a couple picks for a 3rd center. then trade 1st rounder for cash.
Bill Ingram:
They're not getting Kidd, as good as he would make them . . .Mavs will re-sign him.
Frank in Sacamento:
Hi Bill,
What if NY were to offer CURRY & their #8 to MEM for DARKO, BUCKNER & #2? The salaries match. Does CURRY have enough upside to justify this trade? Thanks.
Bill Ingram:
I'd be shocked if anyone took Curry off the Knicks' hands. He's owed $20 mill over the next 2 years and can't run the court . . .
Lebron in Akron:
Do you think Vince Carter is our missing piece to a championship next year?
Bill Ingram:
Could be, though I would think a front court guy like Charlie V would be a better fit with the existing talent.
Will in Orlando:
2 trades for the Magic that will make us better.Turk for Okur,Alston,Gortat for Hamilton?Nelson,Hamilton,Lewis,Okur,Dwight.
Bill Ingram:
Okur's not a four . . .
Will in Orlando:
You know Brandon's Bass game,do you think he would be a good pf for the Magic to go after?
Bill Ingram:
I love Brandon. . .his passion and his enthusiasm. He's even good 3 out of 5 nights. But a champion? Not sure I see that.
BallaG in Toronto:
Do you see any of the teams before Toronto drafting Demar Derozan?
Bill Ingram:
I don't think so - it's hard to say with so many teams looking to move up or down, but as it stands today the Raps should get their man.
Yao in China:
Hey Bill! How abt swap TMAC with Jamal CRawford plus filler?
Bill Ingram:
Would much rather have Crawford . . .
santino raheed in moro state:
who will the rockets trade for TMAC? is getting joe johnson possible? how can we get rid of brian cook?
Bill Ingram:
Yeah, strongly suspect we're stuck with Cook. Equally strongly believe they'll move McGrady . . .Baron Davis and Vince Carter have come up frequently in rumors . . .
maiky pacasum in malawalay 222:
what draft pick will the rockets get? whats the best move for the rockets? who should they get?
Bill Ingram:
They're looking for a 2 and a backup 5. So think Thabeet or Mullens . . .DeRozan, Harden, Thornton, Henderson . . .they're not sure they're going to be able to get a first rounder, but they've been talking with everyone from the Grizzlies on down.
Mark in Green Bay:
Would DeRozan or Earl Cark be a fit choice for Golden State with
the 7th pick?
Bill Ingram:
We've been told the Warriors are going point guard . . .
Josh in Santa Cruz:
Who do you like between the brandon Jennings and Johnny Flynn?
Bill Ingram:
Flynn is the more proven player. I like Jennings' potential, but the stuff going on around him has some league execs thinking "pass." The Bucks love Flynn . . .he'd be a great fit there.
Steve in Detroit:
How good do you think Earl Clark will be? Do you think he could be
better than Lamar Odom?
Bill Ingram:
Great comparison . . .Lamar Odom with more drive and determination.
Tim in Arizona:
What teams do you think would be interested in Jamal Crawford?
Bill Ingram:
Houston, Dallas, Toronto . . .top 3
Jim in Fresno:
Which teams do you think we be the most active on draft day?
Bill Ingram:
Portland will be busy . . .Houston, Memphis, NJ . . .should be a crazy day.
Gabe in Oakland:
Are there any small or power forwards that have a bigger upside
than Brandon Wright?
Bill Ingram:
DeJuan Blair . . .
Tom in Austin:
Do you think there is any point guard that has a bigger upside than
Rubio?
Bill Ingram:
Jennings might . . .Stephen Curry . . .Rubio's a question mark, which is why we've seen him going as high as 2 on mock drafts and then as low as 4.
Mark in :
Good Day. Do you think there's a chance that Sacto would trade Nocioni to Miami for any combination of these expiring contracts, Wright,Blount,Diawara,JJ,Quinn plus 2nd round picks this year. This could help Sacto save money right?
Bill Ingram:
I don't think they just give him away, but it's no secret he was unhappy with the team's lack of drive after he was traded there. Noc would welcome a trade.
Nolan in Winnipeg:
Hey BIll, BC told us all who he is looking to draft. Wise to show
your hand this early? Does it even matter?
Bill Ingram:
Probably means he has a deal in place to get Harden. :))
BlazersFan in WestEurope:
If youre PORTLANDs GM, and I know those are big shoes to be in(the man is GOOD)..Who would it be the starting PG and backup PF you go after this ofseason??
Bill Ingram:
I'd go after Kidd, of course, but that's unlikely to happen. Then maybe you talk to Andre Miller. At the 4 I'm looking at Leon Powe . . .Boston can't afford to keep both him and Davis, and they'll never let Davis walk away.
Chris in Largo,MD:
I heard that the Pistons have promised Ben Gordon 11 mil/year. Can the Bulls pull off a sign and trade with Ben Gordon going to Detroit and Tayshaun and Affalo coming to the Bulls?
Bill Ingram:
That would be a violation of rules regarding contact with other team's free agents . . .Pistons would get smacked down hard.
Paolo in Manila:
is thabeet real good? or he just tall
Bill Ingram:
He's real tall . . .that's about it.
cedric in london:
how good gortat will be as a starting Center (and on what team do u see him next year)?
thx
Bill Ingram:
He's solid . . .not amazing. Think 10 and 10. I don't know if I see him starting . . .I know the Rockets would love to have him behind Yao . . .meaning he would start 20 games or so.
John in Jupiter, FL:
Should the Heat pull trigger now and trade
Beasley for a Big '10 free agent like Bosh
or Stoudamire, or should they hold Beasley
and wait a year in spite of DWAde's public
impatience?
Bill Ingram:
You can't get Amar'e or Bosh now, so you'd wait a year. Amar'e might be ready to play before summer's end, but he can't pass a physical now.
Marcus in Milwaukee,WI:
Why did the Bucks interview Jordan at the Chicago Combine and they just brought him in for a workout friday. Do the Bucks plan on trading up to get him.
Bill Ingram:
He's probably the player who helps them most in the draft. Well, shot of Griffin. They could certainly trade up to get him ...the Wiz are open to deals.
Andrew in Portland:
Aldridge for Gay, 2 (Rubio). Outlaw, Webster, 24 and Bayless for Nash. Portland signs David Lee to replace Aldridge, and Brandon Bass for backup PF. I think that the trades are fair, and the free agent pickups work out well.
Bill Ingram:
The Blazers aren't trading LA or Bayless. . .
Maurice in Milwaukee,WI:
I know this might be your last chat before the draft.
What are latest rumors your hearing about the Milwaukee Bucks in term of the draft are they looking to trade up or down would they like to get Jordan Hill?
Bill Ingram:
They'd love to have Hill - absolutely. He'd replace Charlie V . . .they'd re-sign Sessions.
Big O in Valley Of The Sun, Az:
Bill what's happening? Who are the suns drafting at #14? Daye,
Johnson, Clark, Mullen, Jennings or someone else? I like Daye
and Johnson.
Bill Ingram:
A PG who won't play much in his first year. If they go in any other direction, a trade is coming . . .
Susan in :
I was kind of thinking about what might happen this off-season with the Bucks so here it goes They draft Brandon Jennings & resigns,Ersan Ilyasova or draft Jordan Hill & resigns,Ramon Sessions could this happen or do you see it differently?
Bill Ingram:
Yep . . .if they can move up, they get Hill and keep Sessions.
Edward in Riverside,Cali:
I just wanted to ask you do the Bucks want a PF who can shoot from the 3Pointer(Charlie V,Ersan Ilyasova or a physical one (Jordan Hill,DeJuan Blair)
i just moved here two weeks ago thank you answering question
Bill Ingram:
With Redd and RJ in place they have plenty of long-range bombs. They need a physical rebounder, banger. Hill or Blair either one fits that bill.
Henry in Houston:
Hey Bill I think the rockets should go for guys like Daye, Clark and T-Williams on draft day. because they need to be more versatile and athletic.
Bill Ingram:
I don't know about Daye or Clark, but Williams can play the two and would battle with guys like Kobe and Roy. The Rox are really thinking 2 or 5 . . .though Morey is always full of surprises.
Matthew in Jackson, WY:
When will Rubio become a great PG in the
NBA? Rookie season? Sophomore year?
After?... I think it depends of which
team he'll end up. He needs to be a n2
guy in a team. So Wash for example (4th
option afert big3).
Bill Ingram:
Yeah . . .you don't win many games if he's your starting PG in year one. I'd say middle of his second season . . .though it's hard to say since he's been playing Euro ball and hasn't put up big numbers.
Jeremy in UK:
i hope the Thunder aint drafting Rubio, since they will have an undersized backcourt. look at how Cavs struggle against Magic with West(6'3) guarding Hedo(6'10) since LeBron is LAZY!!!!! (hope Durant is not though)
Bill Ingram:
Yeah . .as much as they want to move Westbrook over to the 2, I'm not sure he can defend the 2.
Jeremy in UK:
should the Thunder consider trading Green? not saying he's not good, but since both him and Durant are best when playing SF, so unless they r moving Green as a sixth-men, they should try to trade him for a starting PF. (like Lee)
Bill Ingram:
I actually think Green will be fine at the 4 . . .and you won't see them trade him. Count on that.
ricky in rose city:
So what's up with the rumors about D Lee coming to Portland? Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Lee in a Blazer uni but I just don't see the playing time for him or why would they spend 10 mill a year on a back up PF.
Bill Ingram:
Exactly . . .that's why I don't see it either.
jdub in richmond va:
i hear a rumor dallas is goin after shaq aggressively. is it true?
Bill Ingram:
Mark would love to have Shaq, but there's no way Sarver helps the Mavs get better. It just won't happen. Too much bad blood.
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
Is Tyreke Evans the most likely pick for my Wolves at six?
Bill Ingram:
Could be . . .we know they're thinking PG and this is a great draft for PGs.
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
How interested are my Wolves in Flynn?
Bill Ingram:
I think Evans, Curry, and Holiday are better PGs, and will be chosen ahead of Flynn.
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
Any truth to the rumor of my Wolves shipping Foye, Miller and #18 to Washington for Butler and #5?
Bill Ingram:
The Wiz aren't breaking up the Big 3 . . .
Josh Meyer in Fort Dodge, IA:
What would it take for my Wolves to strike a deal with Memphis for #2?
Bill Ingram:
You'd have to move Al Jefferson or Kevin Love . . .
Herman in Scottsdale, Az.:
You seem to speak with Steve Kerr on occasion. Do you know how extension talks went with Nash? Kerr soundeded optomistic, but no comment from Nash and his agent. The Suns draft pick could depend on what happened.
Bill Ingram:
Haven't actually spoken to him since those talks . . .he said publicly they went well. I know he's committed to keeping Nash in town with Shaq and Amar'e . . .it's just a matter of whether or not Sarver backs him.
Ricardo in Denver:
is the official list of the USA basketball training camp
participants out yet? if so, who's on it?
sunny in toronto, PLEASE ANSWER THE Q:
caron butler has been working out hard. shawn marion sign n trade for caron butler or richard jefferson? both would help the raptors. PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION.
Bill Ingram:
The Raps are keeping Marion. Also, the Wiz are very committed to keeping the Big 3 together for one more run, from what we've been told.
rob in paris:
what is marvin williams s ceiling?where will he end up next year
Bill Ingram:
Boy, there's a pick you'd like to have back. I'd say the Hawks keep him . . .he'd be crazy not to take the qualifying offer. He needs to play 82 games and continue to improve his 3-pt shooting . . .
Carey in Norfolk, Va:
What moves do you see the Thunder making this offseason?
Bill Ingram:
It all starts with the draft. We have to see what they accomplish. They need another scorer in the backcourt and a front court defender.
Shane in Denver:
imagine rip hamilton on the nuggets.....CHAMPIONSHIP!!
Bill Ingram:
He'd deliver one to Houston, as well. Rip and Chauncey together again . . .wow.
Brock in brooklyn ny:
what are the odds the knicks get ricky rubio?
Bill Ingram:
Probably zero . . .think Curry or Holiday ...
Jason in :
LAC/POR/NY is being discussed to bring back Camby and Frye to NY? This rumor was going around back during the ASB. Lee to Portland, Q to LA, Frye and Camby to NY. Don't know what the deal is between PO/LA. If i were Donnie id pull the trigger, right?
Bill Ingram:
Donnie would, yes, but why would Portland?
Matthew in Jackson, WY:
Why should the Suns do this off season? I
think they should keep the same team, and
rebuild next year.
Bill Ingram:
They need to trade J-Rich for Ray Allen, bring in a defensive mindset, and give the team one year to show they can win it all. When they don't, you blow it up.
Tay in Portland Or:
What list of teams do you think will make the play-offs? Thanks Bill.
Bill Ingram:
West: LA, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, New Orleans, Denver, Portland, Utah
East: Orlando, Cleveland, Boston, Miami, Atlanta, Indiana, Toronto, Chicago.
In no particular order
Ion in Dallas:
What player(s) could make the Mavs a championship team
Bill Ingram:
No one player does that. Give me Shaq and Carwford and we'll talk. :)
Larry in Phoenix:
Bill, I read an article that said NBA revenues could be down 10% next year with the same reduction in the cap and tax. Wouldn't that mean the Suns would have to salary dump Shaq and Amare might go in an unbalanced deal?
Bill Ingram:
That's exactly what everyone's counting on, which is why you're hearing so many trade rumors despite Kerr's insistence that he's not breaking up the team.
Carmichael in Memphis-Where BLOWING the #2 pick happens...:
Bill, brother please tell me the latest rumors aren't true. PLEASE tell me the grizzlies aren't honestly leaning toward thabeet if they can't make a deal for #2
Bill Ingram:
Knowing what I do about Memphis management . . .I'd be lying if I told you that. It would be a huge mistake - Darko and Thabeet together? Start thinking lottery again next year.
Carmichael in Memphis-Where BLOWING the #2 pick happens...:
Say uh bill,do you think one of you guys at Hoopsworld could possibly do the citizens of memphis a favor, and write an article of the grizz need to DESPERATELY NOT blow this pick. Do you think you could have it up before 7pm cst thursday?
Bill Ingram:
LOL . . .Wallace reads us, but I don't know if he'd take our advice. On the flip side, he might be out of a job next season if he takes Thabeet.
Alex in Orlando,FL:
will the magic trade for a draft pick?
Bill Ingram:
I'd be surprised. They don't need the salary tied up.
gary in manila, philippines:
can allen iverson join lebron james and the cavs?
Bill Ingram:
Why would you do that to your locker room???
Jason in Winsdsor:
How good can Demar Derozen become? i hear he is like igudola
Bill Ingram:
Depends on how hard he's willing to work. He's raw right now . . .needs to work on his three . . .but has a great mid-range game, which is something that's missing in the NBA.
Jason in Windsor:
Hey Bill, any raptors news u hearing about? Draft selection?
Marc Kuban in Tallas, Dexas:
What do I have to give up for Chris Kaman?
Is Stack and Damp enough?
Bill Ingram:
Might be . . .though LA would have to include something else to make that work. If all LA wants to do is dump salary, that's a solid deal. I think they'll get better offers . . .
marc cuban in dallas,tx:
who do u think is the missing piece for my dallas mavericks
Bill Ingram:
Shooting guard, better center . . .Crawford, Gortat . . .
Joshua in worcester,ma:
who should my mavs get this offseason to get us to the top
Bill Ingram:
They need to get Josh healthy, #1. Then they need someone like Crawford or Maggette . . .a scoring two who can create his own shot. Someone to make Kidd more effective.
ryan in dallas:
Do the Mavs draft Ty Lawson at 22? I hope so.
Bill Ingram:
A fourth PG????? They really want Thornton . . .Lawson will be gone by 22.
Justin in Memphis, TN:
Do you think it would make sense for the Griz to trade down in the draft to #4 or #5 and drafted Jordan Hill?
Bill Ingram:
If you can get him at 5 . . .Hill makes a great deal more sense than Rubio or Thabeet . . .
Mike in Brooksville:
ricky rubio's nba equivalent...steve nash or jason kidd? or someone else?
Bill Ingram:
LOL . . .if I could answer that question I'd be smarter than any NBA scout in the business today. Nash and Kidd have been the league's elite. I think that's a stretch . . .
mg in boulder co:
what's stuckey's ceiling. bynum looked good with playing time, how would stuckey look at off-guard? trade prince and hamilton and rebuild? chance at some high draft picks
Bill Ingram:
He's a little undersized to play the 2 . . .I think you continue to let him evolve as your PG of the future . . .
mg in boulder co:
Okc, portland r getting much love, but with melo, j.r, nene, doesn't denver have as good or better young talent? melo better or equal to roy, durant. nene compares to aldridge, green. j.r is young & putting together ton of talent
Bill Ingram:
Denver's built to win now . . .Chauncey's still in his prime, but not for much longer. Portland is built to win more long-term. They could surprise next season, but 2-5 years they'll be the dominant team, all things being equal. Denver needs to win a title in the next 2 years to get the most out of Billups.
Mickey in East Texas:
Assuming the Rockets are able to buy into the first round and either player is available, who would be the better fit, Marcus Thornton or Terrence Williams.
Bill Ingram:
Marcus is longer . . .Thornton is a phenomenal three-point shooter . . .I'd go with Williams for defensive reasons, but either is a good choice.
Mickey in East Texas:
Is Tony Parker a future cornerstone for a title contender or should the Spurs consider trading him to restock talent for the future and also make a last title run with Timmy and Manu?
Bill Ingram:
Tony's amazing . . .he's their cornerstone for sure . . .
Gene in Los Angeles, CA:
What kind of moves do you think will make the pistons championship contenders next season?
Bill Ingram:
They're a looooong way from being a contender. It would take several major moves . . .moves they're not going to make.
Alvin in Lancaster, C.A.:
Sup Bill! new to the site, what are the chances of the lakers keeping LO,Trevor, and Brown? do u see them making a move and trading sasha to free some cap space?
Bill Ingram:
Welcome! I don't know who would take Sasha at this point. They paid him well and then he didn't play much of a role as the season moved along. I do think they'll bring back LO and Ariza, even if they have to pay the tax to do it. Phil's last year and all.
Argie Grigorakos in Toronto, Ontario, Canada:
Hey Bill, Have you heard any rumours about the Bulls in regards to BG, the Draft, or Free Agency. Thanks.
Bill Ingram:
They're set on bringing back BG, but expect to see a major move involving one of their front court guys. I can't say more than that, but there will be a deal . . .think about what they almost did at the trade deadline.
Camron in Detroit:
why don the nicks want to trade david lee? He is a future superstar who can give you 20 and ten wihtout htinking an he is in better shape than zach randolph?
Bill Ingram:
It all comes down to finances . . .they can't afford what he's going to command on the open market.
Mc. grady in Houston:
if i am healthy, how about to trading me for randolph or chris kaman? I have an expiring contract and randolph and kaman would be great additions next to yao ming
Bill Ingram:
Kaman would be fabulous, and the Clips are one of the teams interested in his ending deal. Kaman doesn't get it done alone, but he'd be a nice piece to have playing behind (and in place of) Yao.
Tim Duncan in San Antonio:
Why isnt popovich or the gm of my team doesntthink about dumping the whole roster and keep just me and parker. ginobili has been pissing the team off with his ankles, my knees are killing me. I need help
Bill Ingram:
There are some solid pieces around you. Mason is a good supporting piece, Bonner is getting better every year. Beyond that, you only have Hill and Mahinmi under contract beyond next season with you and Tony. Help's coming . . .a lot of help.
Ben in Chicago:
Why aren't the bulls eager to sighn ben gordon back? he is their legit superstar with second best closer next to kobe.
Bill Ingram:
I don't know about second best behind Kobe, but they are working to bring him back.
Grandville in Denver:
Why are the pistons eager to sign boozer to a superstar deal? boozer hasnt proven anything to cleveland and utah whom are dying to get rid of him? he only wants money and is preventing the pistons for 2010?
Bill Ingram:
If I'm Detroit I want Millsap, not Boozer. Millsap plays through injuries.
Marcus in Los Angeles:
Why does marcus camby doesnt get appreciated in the NBA. He is in his prime way over 30, has great playmaking for his size as well as rebounding and shot blocking
Bill Ingram:
Because he stubs his toe and misses 10 games. Play through an injury, will ya'?
Lamar in Los Angeles:
Why are the lakers pushing odom to resign with the lakers if he is showing no desire to do so? We all know the nuggets will win the championship next year so should the lakers GM allow odom do sign where he wants to,
Bill Ingram:
The Nuggets have a very good team, but if Kobe is healthy, the Lakers are the favorites to repeat. That's why you keep Odom around . . .and he definitely wants to return.
Stan in Nashville:
Why did the wizards sign arenas to a superstar contract if all he does for the wizards is sit on a bench hurt like a baby? ben gordon is way better and isnt getting paid as much
Bill Ingram:
Fair question . . .because when he plays he's one of the best in the business. When he plays.
Chris Paul in New Orleans:
What type of injury did chris paul suffer in the 06-07 season? is it a coincidence that his left knee has been bothering him in the playoffs, or did he suffer a different injury
Bill Ingram:
Chris' knee was hurting because he was trying to play basketball with 11 guys on his back . . .
Kevin in Minnesota:
Why does Baron Davis consider himself a celebrity like making up rumors that he is related to rappers? He hasnt proven anything in his career. He is a cancer to the clippers team. saw their record
Bill Ingram:
Have you ever talked to Baron? He's not a cancer, he's just a little mental. Seriously.
JR smith in Denver:
why is yao ming showing no appreciation for getting over paid by the NBA. He didnt show any interest in helping his team beat the lakers
Bill Ingram:
I don't understand the premise. He was hurt . . .as always . . .and would have played otherwise. It KILLED him to sit on the sideline when he might have been the difference between losing in 7 and winning in 6.
Jose in Miami, FL:
Hey Bill, if D-Wade signs an extension now, do you see Pat fast tracking the process and make big trades?
Bill Ingram:
Certainly gives them a huge bargaining chip when talking with free agents . . .and adds motivation to bring in one more solid piece. I don't think they need an All-Star . . .if JO can get healthy . . .
Alex P in Los Angeles, CA:
With the 29th pick in the draft LA Lakers take (providing they do not sell or trade this pick away)?
Bill Ingram:
Someone who stays overseas for the foreseeable future. Jerebko or Beaubois . . .
Alex P in Los Angeles, CA:
If they Lakers do not resign either LO or Ariza - whom do you see them targeting in the F.A. market? McDyess, Charlie V, maybe AI to come of the bench and have a chance at a ring?
Bill Ingram:
Moot point . . .they'll keep both. CV is an interesting idea, though equally inconsistent.
t-mac in ohio:
i like to team with the king..wat do you think morey will do?
Bill Ingram:
It won't be Cleveland . . .
Adam in atl:
Where do you see Mike Bibby next season? Portland? Dallas?
76ers? or back to Atlanta?
Bill Ingram:
The Hawks better keep him . . .Law is not close to being ready.
Jp in Dallas:
do you see Jason Kidd resigning with Dallas? or is he off to
Portland or Cavs?
Bill Ingram:
Cuban says he'll keep Kidd at all costs. They'll overpay him to stay.
Tre in Portland Oregon:
do you think Kirk Hinrich would be a solid fit for the Blazers? I
think he's an upgrade over Blake. Your thoughts?
Bill Ingram:
Absolutely! I love Hinrich's game. He should be starting somewhere, though the Bulls deny they would trade him.
Shah in we miss the NBA in the 206:
do you see my Seattle guys Terrance WIlliams, Jon Brockman
and Micah Downs all getting drafted?
Bill Ingram:
Williams will . . .doubtful on your other two. Might get a SL invite.
Josh in Eugene OR:
any chance Portland goes after Tayshun Prince?
Bill Ingram:
If they can get him for Outlaw, sure! :) The reality is they like Batum quite a bit, and landing Prince sabotages his development as a starter. I like the idea, but it's been explained to me that way.
Marcus in Ohio:
Cavs have been rumored with every player on the market, Redd
looks possible again,Brian Windhorst even saying a Boozer and
AK47 deal is very possible. Is Danny Ferry the busiest GM at the
moment?
Bill Ingram:
No . . .Kevin Pritchard and O'Connor are busier . . .
#10 pick.. in Milwaukee:
do you think Joe Alexander has upside? i think he's going to
be a solid pro once he continues to develop and learn the NBA
game. your thoughts?
Bill Ingram:
He certainly has upside, but may need a trade to realize it. Skiles won't play him.
Jermaine in Ohio:
Reports are saying the Cavs are discussing a deal for Redd and
Villanueva. Obviously an upgrade, but is it enough? Can Redd
become a good defender again?
Bill Ingram:
I'd be really surprised if they traded Redd. Really surprised. Just talked to Hammonds and he believes Redd, RJ and Bogut are their core group going forward.
Mickey in :
i think my Hawks are a few moves away from being a actual
threat in the East. I think they should resign Bibby, sign and
trade Marvin, sign a big like Gortat, resign Flip draft BJ Mullens,
Jeff Teague or Marcus Thornton. What are your thoughts?
Bill Ingram:
Interesting ideas. They need to do something this season or they'll lose Joe Johnson. Clearly they need a point guard, as law isn't showing me he can be a starter for the future.
Piter in The Hague, The Netherlands:
Hey Bill, greetings from the Netherlands. Assuming the magic resign Turk. Could they sign and trade Gortat (and Alston) for some talent? What player(s) would you like them to get for that package.
Bill Ingram:
Helloooooo Netherlands! Alston could go to Portland... The Blazers are looking for a veteran PG, and Alston showed he still has plenty left in his tank.
Maurice in Paris, France not Hilton:
Dirk is a superstar but I think he needs a scoring center on his side to win it all. I know they don't grow on trees but any chance the mavs get one this offseason?
Bill Ingram:
Absolutely . . .they need low post scoring, and Dirk's never going to give them that.
G-Man in ATL:
Hansborough really impressed the hawks management by having a high nrg workout. Ellington impressed management with his professionalism. Which would be the better player for the hawks to get?
Bill Ingram:
Hansbrough adds front court depth, which they need. Ellington is not going that high. They should think point guard, honestly.
sam in melbourne,victoria:
who do you think will have a better nba career earl clark or
james johnson or austin daye
Bill Ingram:
I'm going to go with Clark . . .kid is phenomenal!
sam in melbourne, victoria:
why dont the suns trade jason richardson for more picks
maybe to the mavs for the 22 or to the hornets, barbosa needs
to start and they need some financial relief ????
Bill Ingram:
Suns won't deal with Dallas . . .and I don't think you can start Barbosa at the two . . .not when you're going to see a steady diet of Kobe Bryant and Brandon Roy . . .esp if you make the playoffs.
Seany T in London:
Hey Bill,
With so many players across two rounds, how do teams effectively evaluate players? On average how many players do they get in for workouts?
Bill Ingram:
OK, everyone. I'm actually going to let the last question submitted be the final question today. I know there were a ton I didn't get to - and again, I spent about 3 hours, not just our customary hour - but make sure you get the questions in early. Everyone who sent in a question before this morning got an answer, I think.
Different teams approach it differently, Sean, but for the most part they try to get a look at as many players as they can - first round prospects, second round prospects, and even players who will go undrafted who they might want to invite to Summer League. Execs travel to Europe for camps there and schedule workouts with an many guys as they can, then attend group workouts in various different cities. The name of the game is seeing as many different guys as many times as you can.
Thanks for stopping by, everyone! Luke Byrnes is up next, so get your questions in now!
Lester in San Antonio, TX:
How likely is it that the Spurs pick up another European (who we won't see for five years; i.e., Tiago Splitter) or D-leaguer in the draft... Rather than moving up and taking someone who can contribute now?
Bill Ingram:
It wouldn't shock me to see them move Manu this summer, but I don't know if they'd do it for anyone in this draft class short of Griffin. Beyond that, they don't have much to offer to move up with that they're willing to give away. They've been high on Casspi, but I don't know if they can get him. He'll go higher than 23 . . .wants to be the first Isreali to play in the NBA. The Nets are high on him.
