Landry To Sign Offer Sheet

League sources have informed HOOPSWORLD that Rockets' restricted free agent Carl Landry will sign a three-year, $9 million offer sheet from the Charlotte Bobcats.

Once signed, the Rockets will have seven days to match the offer, a deal which would put the Rockets very close to the NBA luxury tax.

The Rockets have maintained all summer that they would match any deal given to Landry, and it seems Landry is ready to force the issue.

League sources said that Rocket's GM Daryl Morey flew out and met with Carl last week and tendered a new offer, rumored to be roughly half of what the Bobcats' are offering.

Sources said Landry is in Charlotte now, and the deal could become official later today.

More as it develops.

Portland Passes on Livingston

HOOPSWORLD was told earlier in the day that the Blazers had reached an agreement with Shaun Livingston, but new information has reached us that the team ultimately decided to pass on Livingston in favor of signing Shavlik Randolph.

Randolph, the 6'10" power forward who played with the Philadelphia 76ers last season, won out because he has the size to help fill in while the Blazers are without Raef LaFrentz (shoulder) and Channing Frye (ankle). LaFrentz is out for the season, but Frye could be back some time in November. Until then Randolph will get some minutes and an opportunity to show he belongs in the rotation. His contract is non-guaranteed, so he could be battling Steven Hill and Luke Jackson for a roster spot.

The Miami HEAT and Minnesota Timberwolves remain frontrunners for Shaun Livingston's services.

Big rockets fan here, and i have no problem with 3 years 9 million for Landry. That is not a ridiculous offer, I was willing to give him a bigger albeit incentive filled contract. Considering how much some players make 3 years and 9 million is great for us..... ONLY if landry still wants to be a rocket

It's not a bad deal at all for Carl, but Houston doesn't want to pay luxury tax and this deal would put them over the top. We'll know soon if Houston will match, so stay tuned.

Wow, quality journalism right there. Two minutes ago "Blazers get Shaun" dominated the heading.

Thanks for bringing my hopes about Livingston up with fake news. Next time, do more research before posting articles! He will probably sign now with the Wolves, play too early, and hurt himself again. This is a bad day for Shaun, and a bad day for the Blazers.

Hmmm..... might Livingston come to regret that he turned down guaranteed money from the Clippers?

What's funny is that hoopsworld appeared to be the only site reporting that Livingston had been signed. I'll make sure to take all headlines here with a grain of salt from now on.

Typical Hoopsworld news...fake news. Kinda jumped the gun there, didn't they? Anyways, Shuan wouldn't had played much with the able depth of the Blazers. Us Blazers fans have trust in KP. So I would't say is a bad day for the Blazers, as long as KP is in charge and Mr. Allen is our owner.

I know its not a terrible deal for Landy but he has already proved injury prone and dont the rockets still want to sign dikembe and/or dorsey

yah it should say landry has a deal, will Livingston get one? it definitely is absolutely wrong right now. Unless the deal he has is to NOT play with the Blazers..

CSG.... the rockets will sign Dorsey with whatever is left from the MLE, if they match the offer from the bobcats to Landry then that leaves them more than enough to give Dorsey a good deal for a second round pick. It will however put them slightly over the luxury cap, which i think they will be more than happy to do if it means guaranteeing a deep young front court. Deke has been offered the veterans minimum for someone with his experience (around 1.6 million that counts against the luxury tax but is not subject to salary cap stipulation.) Everything I read from him seems to indicate he wants more money, and everything I read seems to indicate the rockets have no intention of giving it to him.

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to take a bite at Carl Landry. Landry is a good role player and who can put up some good numbers if given extra playing time. Livingston may want to talk to Denver.

if livingston stays healthy for a few years and he regains form then the heat will have a nice lineup with him, wade, marion, beasly.

Here's hoping the Bobcats get Landry. He's a fine player and they need some good news. Plus, I want him to leave Houston, just to cause them some grief.

Please give the name of the source who gave you the bogus info about the Blazers and Livingston. It's time to expose these liars.

league sources? yeah draft express, where legit journalism happens. Btw hoopshype still got hoopsworld reporting on livingston signing on there page.

HoopsHype and Draft Express did not have this before we did... they ran it after we ran it... and being wrong does not make you a liar... your simply wrong. We were told by several people that the Blazers had reached a deal with Shaun - SEVERAL... the problem is things like this end up being that word leaks that the team is signing someone, and everyone inside the team does the same thing fans do - jumps to conclusions, all we can do is pick up the phone and ask the question of credible people, if they are wrong, that's not something we can predict, especially when those same people are spot on on everything else.

As for Landry, I'm not sure what the motivation is to cause the Rockets grief. After the injuries they've faced over the last 3 seasons they're due some good karma. Landry is a promising young player, but if I had to choose between signing Mutombo AND Dorsey OR Landry I would have to go with Deke and Joey. The Rockets already have Chuch Hayes and Luis Scola at the four, and Artest is even capable of playing there in a pinch. So adding a 3rd or 4th PF instead of adding a second center behind a guy who gets hurt all the time makes little sense. From a Bobcats perspective, it's a brilliant move. Carl had 4 or 5 teams interested, but liked the Charlotte situation the best. Hard to blame him - he might just be their missing piece if he can pick up where he left off last season.
