The San Antonio Spurs today announced that guard Manu Ginobili will miss the remainder of the 2008-09 regular season as well as the 2009 NBA Playoffs.

Ginobili felt stiffness in his lower right leg during the Spurs-Cavaliers game in Cleveland on Sunday afternoon. Following the game he returned to San Antonio. Earlier today, in San Antonio, he underwent a CT scan and an MRI. The examinations showed an increased marrow edema and a stress fracture in his right distal fibula.

No timeline has been determined for Ginobili's return to the court.

early exit from the playoffs this year for the spurs...i predict they wont get out of the 1st round without manu

I don't doubt they could manage to defeat a lower ranked team in the first round, but it will be much more difficult. They will have little chance after that at advancement. What this signals to me more importantly is the fist signs of the collapse of their dominance. Ginobli often injured (with stress fractures) and duncan's bad knees signal time for the end of that dynasty.

I really hope Portland ends up drawing San Antonio in the playoffs instead of Houston. There is some blood in the water around that team.

it looks like a free path for the lakers to dominate the west playoffs, even more than last when they went 12-3... '09 champs or bust...

This season spurs are 17-15 without ginobili, they're 18-21 against team over 50%...so. I would have bet on the blazers 4 the upset to be in conference finals but they should take the lakers in semi, next year.

damn.. time to trade manu.. he's been hurting the spurs the past two seasons.. which has led to the spurs not being able to score well against good teams. mason could help them but he doesn't scare away defenders. if only they got bonzi for part of the mid level last offseason...

Wow, I do feel bad for him but I'm suprised this didn't happen to the Rockets (besides Tmac of course). I think the injury bug missed Luis Scola so it took out the closest Argentinian.

Spurs are pretty much done now, even if they were to get the Jazz, the team they've bullied for years. Great news for my Rockets and also the Hornets in terms of claiming the Southwest Division Title and the 3rd Seed in the West.

@ CSG - that's the funniest thing I've read in a while. That's hilarious!!!! (and true) I think the Spurs are still very dangerous - Tony Parker will just add 10 ppg to his load. But with Timmy's knees aching they can't afford for him to do much more - or they'll lose him, too.
