Alex's Weekly Update: Nobody is questioning Ricky Rubio's status as the draft's second-most intriguing prospect. However, the issue of his buyout from DKV Joventut is something that people are disagreeing over. Based on current exchange rates, Rubio's buyout could be worth nearly $8 million. Making matters worse is that the issue might end up in international court since Rubio's signature is not on his Spanish contract (his parents signed in his place). With teams such as the Wizards and Clippers already heavily invested in the point guard position, Rubio could potentially slide in the draft. He is too talented to fall far, but don't be surprised if the Thunder land Rubio and slide Russell Westbrook over to shooting guard. One of the advantages of taking Westbrook in last year's lottery means that G.M. Sam Presti can take a shooting guard or point guard without fear of overloading any one position. This means that DeMar DeRozan, Brandon Jennings, Tyreke Evans, Jrue Holliday and James Harden are all fair game for the Thunder.

Joel's Weekly Update: It's a little early for us to be hearing about guarantees, but we've already apparently got a top ten lock with Stephen Curry and the New York Knicks at #8. Of course a lot can change between now and late June, but it's hard to ignore how well Curry would fit in a Mike D'Antoni offense. That would put him in a position to be among the rookie class's leading scorers next season.

Beyond that, I've got Terrance Williams a lot higher than most of the other mocks I've seen, but he's the highest-rated guy the Toronto Raptors currently have on their slate for workouts, and if Shawn Marion does in fact leave in free agency this summer they'll need a talented swingman to fill that gap.

The other issue is what happens to Jordan Hill if he drops out of the top three. He's pretty clearly a top-four talent, but with Oklahoma City and Minnesota pretty set at power forward, is it possible he could slip to Memphis at #6? Or do the Thunder forget about what they've already got, draft the best guy available, and worry about minute later? Hill's a guy to watch—he could go as high as three, but it's also possible he could slip a little bit.

Yannis' Weekly Update: For most players deciding whether or not to stay in the draft is the biggest decision they've made since choosing what college they were going to attend. There's so much conflicting information out there, the possibility of making millions, and pressure from the people surrounding them to make what they feel is the best choice. The draft process though, when properly utilized, is truly the best way for amateur athletes to realize how close they are to achieving the ultimate goal and what they need to improve on the most. Those who leave their options open are undergoing the process the way it was intended, like Wake Forest's Jeff Teague. With two years of college experience already under his belt Teague has proven to be an NBA-caliber talent. However, this draft is overflowing with point guards far more developed as a floor general than himself. Teague needs to let the feedback he receives dictate his summer workouts while always keeping in mind the disappointing manner in which his Demon Deacons' season came to an end. His team needs him more than the NBA draft does this year. If Teague comes back with enhanced point guard skills the Demon Deacons will be strong contenders for a national championship. The draft will once again be there at the end of the season, along with a likely spot in the lottery.

Steve's Weekly Update: The Toronto Raptors are slotted for the #9 pick and lottery luck can happen to any team, just ask the Chicago Bulls. Last year the Bulls were slotted ninth and had only a 1.7 percent chance of winning the lottery. They leapfrogged eight teams to grab the top spot which ultimately got them Rookie of The Year Derrick Rose and a return to the playoffs.

Raptors' GM Bryan Colangelo will represent the Raptors in New Jersey on Tuesday hoping for some lottery luck, but armed with the knowledge some special talent might be there for the Raptors should they hold the line. Don't buy into the hype, the Raptors won't be trading Chris Bosh this summer so the pick they land Tuesday is likely the pick they will use on June 25th. The Raptors are looking for help at the four spot, and at backup point guard. The shooting guard spot is the club's biggest need, so having needs in three spots, makes the Raptors an interesting wildcard in the Top 10. Before you go slotting the Raptors taking a shooting guard, keep in mind the club has not ruled out re-signing Anthony Parker and hopes to get Carlos Delfino back in the fold next season - neither happens if the Raptors go shooting guard at #9.

Hey Skyler. Interested to hear your thoughts on why Patty Mills isn't first round. Just curious considering everyone else has him in the top 30.

Joel's fantasy Thunder of Westbrook, Durant, Green, Griffin and Krstic would be very attractive, but the Wizards of Arenas, Butler, Jamison, Griffin and McGee might contend.

I prefer Grizzlies getting Griffin. Conley, OJ, Gay, Griffin, Gasol. That's a tough team to beat in a couple of years.

The point here is not to "follow" while Patrick Mills is going to be drafted, you have to start prioritizing, and Patrick kept sliding in this mock... with each new mock I try to consider the changes in priority after seeing who teams schedule for workouts, what teams are saying about needs, and in such a deep point guard class, Patty is the bubble guy, I think he and Nick Calathes are gonna battle out the last point guard spot in the first round, and I have had a few teams tell me he won't last to 31... if Nick falls off, then Patty could climb.

Yannis Perfect draft for the Bulls!!!! I would totally agree on that.

Holiday seem to be quite a wild card. most mock draft i saw he is around mid-late 1st. i got him drafted by the Mavs at 22nd, is that too low?

Having seen Jrue in person a good half dozen times this summer, he is an exceptional talent... he could be the best guy in the class in three years--- right there with Griffin and Rubio, he's really that good... he's got some things working against him - he was flat awful at UCLA, whihc is why he's likely not going back, but his upside is off the charts... a team willing to gamble that he'd be serviceable as a rookie and a possible star in the future - like Rodney Stuckey or Aaron Brooks - I can tell you he's getting love from all over, if you have him in the 20's that might be too low - this draft is going to be fluid, so he could go as high as 4 or 5, or as low as 20...

Your also not going to find a character guy quite like Jrue, he's got that "it" factor, but he is just 18 and does not have as much polish to his game - but neither does Rubio, Jennings or Evans - so you have to put him in that class.

Why'd you delete my comment Skyler. It was a serious question. Why won't the Magic get a traditional PF, so they can actually go somewhere in this league?
posted By Steve Kyler, 17 May 2009 7:38:13 AM
I didn't delete any comments... but as far as the Magic they do not have a pick in this draft in either round, so if your asking about free agency... 59 wins, and a possible Conference Finals berth says they are headed in the right direction as constructed...without Jameer Nelson... as Stan is prone to explaining, you play with what you have and until the right guy comes along, you have to go with your best players that create the biggest most effective mismatches

do u think McNeal can crack into the 1st round? he is a solid combo guard, and can defend!!! if he can develop his PG skill, i see him like D. West or Hinrich.

Blair at 8? Has he been that impressive in workouts? Also, i like the Johnny Flynn to philly and Calathes to Dallas. I think they both fit those teams needs(with Kidd and Miller prob. leaving) and bring some youth to that position in those cities. I think T-Will i definitely going higher than 27 but if Memphis snagged him there at 27 theyd be gettin damn good value at that position. And Psycho T at 19? Noooooooooo...not for Mark Madsen.

I seriously doubt Jerel McNeal can jump into the first, he's just not gonna get the looks needed to go that high... I think he gets drafted, but mid-second round...

DeJuan Blair is a MONSTER!!!!! They have started calling him "Medium" - because when he arrived he needed a double XL, now he's a much slimmer XL - he's dropped 20 pounds EASY... he's more fluid, definitely jumping higher and more explosive... he's really impressive... really, really impressive.

Question for Kyler: Why on earth would the grizzlies select Tabeet, when they have a very capable, 1st Team All Rookie center in Gasol....just wondering if you know something that I don't
posted By Steve Kyler, 17 May 2009 9:13:45 PM
Move Gasol to the four, Thabeet to the 5, trade Darko... thats a possible plan... I think if Jordan Hill is off the board they go with Thabeet, their biggest weakness is front court defense.

I'd rather catch the Swine flu than see Brandon Jennnings go to Minny at #5. He's the Darrius Heyward-Bey pick the draft. At least Skyler got it right. James Harden baby!

Does the Rubio camp try the don't draft me because Io won't come to your city stuff? In private or public? I would imagine they want New York, LA. would they take Toronto or Washington even the player ahead of them? I'd think they'd think twice about coming over for some of the other cities, especially if they think endorsements are going to a mother load, which I doubt or least the way to pay the buyout.
