Celtics would be absolutely retarded to trade rondo, this guy is a top tier point guard (all star next year) who just had the post season of his life.

I kinda believe this a lil bit bout boston... Rondo will demand a serious extension soon and Allen clearly is aging/declining in skills with his hefty contract... Luxury tax is an issue BIG 4 (rondo, allen, truth,kg) is gonna have to change do to the business aspects of the game...They will be foolish to part with Rondo though. Allen, Perkins, Davis are easily expendable to keep him...

I couldn't agree more . . .Rondo is the future of the franchise to me. He's a young player who needs to learn his role. Maybe Ainge is trying to send that message, the way the Spurs did by offering Tony Parker to the Jazz for the pick that was Deron Williams. Parker began his rise to an elite level player that summer. Maybe Rondo will do the same thing this summer. I actually had this story yesterday, but waited to run it because I had to be sure the Rondo factor was actually correct. I found it very hard to believe.

I kinda disagree Bill. It remains to be seen how effective Rondo is when he's not playing with three hall of famers. Allen, Pierce, & Garrett will all retire pretty close to each other. If 2 of those 3 are gone and they're left with Rondo and the last big 3 player that gotta drop them down to round 5th in the East. I'd definitely would try to trade Allen first but I don't think they have a chance of landing any young talent with him only. A package of Rondo/Allen will definitely get 3, maybe even 4 quality players.

Yea, I think those LA piss poor reporters are right, they should trade Rondo to LA for bag of peanuts, just like Fakers got Gasol on a bargain a year ago, what a joke those reporters are, I know it's offseason, but still... pathetic!!!
posted By Mike, 4 June 2009 7:17:52 PM
Btw. I can't understand it, 99% of those ESPN "reporters" are Lakers fans (except Simmons), crazy, like you need to be Faker to get a job there, lol.
posted By Bill Ingram, 4 June 2009 7:48:12 PM
@ PY - That could be. Then again, there were times where he outshone both Pierce and Allen in the playoffs. ... As for ESPN, they only understand two names: Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. They're short circuiting right now with Dwight in there instead.

the morons on this site took the quotes about Rondo WAAAAAAAAYYY out of context. That is the most blatant bs i've ever seen. The comments from Doc saying "did you know your teammates hate playing with yoU?.. change your attitude" was from an article praising Rondo for his growing maturity... and Doc was referring to the fact that as a rookie Rondo had a bit of an attitude problem and he has since embraced the role of leader and grown up.
Unbelievably out of context. I'll never read this site again.

Wow, are you going to tell anyone that you lifted those comments from articles praising rondo the globe ran early this year or pretend you got them from some "exclusive sources"?
The river's qoute was a story he was telling about his rookie season on a the dennis and callahan radio show to show how much rondo has grown, and he told that story last year after the finals that the globe re-ran in its "rondo growing before our eyes" article this past summer.
The ainge qoute is from the same globe story, about how he had questions coming out of rondo's rookie year and how much the big 3 have changed his attitude.
Hoops hype- where twisting the story happens.

just so we know how little actual research Hoopshype does before trying to start something by lifting qoutes from out of context stories....6th paragraph down.

I actually read all of those stories on HoopsHype before writing this piece, included the quotes, which were all from current stories. Not that ESPN is thorough on everything, but generally they're current. You're claiming they took those out of context from something over a year old? Wow . . .hard to believe that.

Celtics should trade rondo hes just a smaller version of russell westbrook, if rondo goes to a bad team everyone can see he ant all that. plays good Defense...umm teammates like him....and thats about it.

Ryan - as someone who pulls for the small market teams, I'd hate to see the Bucks lose CV. That said, he would definitely help them against the Magic - Lewis and Turkoglu (if he's back). I think Shaq stays put . . .they'll dish Amar'e.

Hey Bill,
Even though only partially, I must admit a finally agree with you, wholeheartedly... cuz 2 out of 3 ain’t bad! ...I agree with you on ESPN understanding two languages, but only capable or willing to speak just one! ...And you know what I’m talking about! ...I also agree with you on ESPN stuttering uncontrollably, as an alternative language, when it comes to Dwight Howard... LOL

Doc made the comment to Rondo that his teammates hate playing with him when he was a rookie in the dismal 24 win season....get your facts straight his teammates dont hate playing with him because they KNOW they go as he goes.

As a Lakers fan, I would LOVE to see the celtics trade Rondo. What an idiotic move that would be on their part. As for Allen, that's loyalty for ya. So much for all that "Umbutu' crap and Doc's team-first BS. Hey Ray, Doc just said thanks for saving our behinds countless times, but don't let the door hit ya on the way out. And, BTW, all of you haters who are now on Ariza's jock ... the kid ain't goin nowhere. Lakers have plenty of money and will lock him up.

If this trade is made, then My feeling of Danny being a smart business man will change, and I will walk away as a 40 something years Celtics Fan. Ray Allen is just as important as any other player on that team and without him it will not work. They didn't learn from losing other players? As for Ronjo he Will be one of the best PG in the NBA. So I don't know what message Danny is sending but this one is way out in left field...

The celtics have been searching for a point gaurd for 15 years and now that they have one, they're going to trade him? This article is ridiculous, pure speculation and seems to be a complete fabrication.

What a crap article. I just want to reiterate what a previous reader said. Doc's quote about Rondo was about the way Rondo was playing during his rookie season. Not this past season.

I can unequivocally say that there is no way the Celtics are trading Rajon Rondo. Do not believe some fool in PHX blowing smoke.
The Celtics would NEVER trade the cornerstone of the future in a 23-year-old point guard.
Come on. Don't people have any integrity any more?

These quotes doc and ainge made about rondo were quoted his ROOKIE season. Hoopsworld has totally taken it out of context. Rondo is not going anywhere. The only person I can see maybe trading is allen because of his age and expiring contract that could help the C's bring in some young talent

A few people have said this already, but to the rest who haven't seen it, THE ROND PART IS JUNK! Read the MacMullan article that is referenced... Those negative quotes were taken from the MacMullans’s ESPN Article “Rondo fast becoming Celt’s Leader” back in April. Irresponsible journalism.

Worst article I've read in a while... The part about rondo is absolute junk... It's just irresponsibe journalism (and don't even try to come up with an excuse!)
I'll never read hoopsworld again...

The problem that I have with this story is that they portray Celtics management wrongly. If you read the McMullen piece, Doc Rivers' comments about sucking energy away came from the 2006-2007 season, not this season. And Ainge was saying Rondo was stubborn for hustling for offensive rebounds - not the worst offense. I just think that, whether or not they would shop him for the right deal, it's a little irresponsible to use those two quotes to conclude "there is certainly a lot of negativity coming from the decision-makers."
posted By jgeh, 5 June 2009 10:54:19 PM
both the ainge quote and the rivers quote in the rondo item are taken way out of context. both quotes are from articles explicitly praising rondo, and are used point out the way he used to behave versus the way he does now in terms of his growth and maturation as a teammate. this is some pretty lazy journalism and it's frustrating to see it linked on si.com because this is the kind of garbage that can take a life of its own and create a schism in a locker-room.

The Boston Phoenix trade makes little to no sense whatsoever. It's true that PHO is looking for their "PG of the future", but without Amare and Barbosa, two of their youngest and most productive players, what kind of future can they have. Who would they play at PF? Gant Hill, like that stretch of games last year? Luis Amundsun? No. It's not gonna happen. Unless they pick up a player in the draft like Earl Clark, who turns out to be better than his reported worth, a deal like this won't happen. It doesn't make sense on Bostons side either. Why bring a poor defender like Amare into your frontcourt? Besides, they are already loaded with Big men. Glen Davis, Leon Powe, KG, Kendrik Perkins, Scalibrine, Bill Walker. What minutes would Barbosa get? Would he take some of Allen's minutes? Rondo's? Would he take all of Eddie House's minutes as well? The Suns mangement is notorious for making poor decisions, but even they should be able to tell that this trade would be a complete bust.

Bill, it says in the linked article that Rivers made the comment about Rondo's teammates hating to play with him two years ago -- during the 24-win season.
I'm sorry to say, but you really botched this up.
