Alex's Weekly Update: There seems to be a lot of guessing as to where Darren Collison, Eric Maynor and Patty Mills might be going.
Mills' stock seems to be suffering right now. The success of Aaron Brooks in Houston had many wondering if Mills could be a scoring threat despite standing only 6-0. However, Brooks left Oregon after hitting over 40% of his 3-pointers as a senior. Mills hit under 34% of his against inferior competition at St. Mary's last season.
Of everyone in this year's draft, Maynor was 14th overall in terms of free throw attempts last season and hit over 80% of them once he got there. This is good indication of his overall value. He isn't amazing at anything (hit around 50% of his 2-point field goals and flirted with hitting 40% of his 3-point field goals last year) but he is good enough at a few things to get by in the NBA.
Collison's value is largely determined by where the previous two players get drafted. Some people have Mills very high while others have him falling out of the first round. Maynor was projected to go as high as Philadelphia at 17, but the latest round of workouts may have made Ty Lawson the favorite to land with the 76ers. Collison should be a first round pick, but his steady defense could give him a lot of playing time as a rookie. Maynor and Mills are each more of a project than Collison, but they have more up-side.
Joel's Weekly Update: I look at my draft and the first thing that sticks out is Jordan Hill and the Golden State Warriors.
In each of my last two mocks Hill has seemed to slip, despite his being arguably the fourth most talented player in the draft. But if Oklahoma City opts for James Harden instead of Ricky Rubio at #3, Hill will have to go #5 to the Wizards or face dropping down the lottery a little bit.
Washington is a team in need of some post help, but sources close to the team have indicated that finding some permanent backcourt help might be a bigger priority, especially with the shaky injury history of Gilbert Arenas. That's why a guy like Tyreke Evans makes so much sense there, because he can legitimately play both guard positions, meaning he can play with Arenas or for Arenas.
If that's the way they go, Minnesota has no real need for Hill at #6, so the next team I can see taking him is Golden State. If they pass for a guy like Brandon Jennings or Terrance Williams, there's no telling where Hill could end up, but whoever gets him could end up with the steal of the draft.
Yannis' Weekly Update: As we get closer and closer to draft night there are enough rumors swirling around to do 15 different mock drafts, none of which will likely be close to what actually goes down on June 25th.
With so much contradicting information out there at some point you have to just completely disregard everything and go by where the best fits are because in the end that's what matters the most. The Oklahoma City Thunder have shown interest in Ricky Rubio, Jrue Holiday, James Harden, and just about everyone other than Hasheem Thabeet. However, the 7'3" project is exactly what the team needs and brings so many things to the table that they currently don't have at the center position. That is why the UConn product has remained locked in at #3 and will continue to do so the rest of the way on my mock draft.
Steve's Weekly Update: Several high ranking personnel people are telling HOOPSWORLD that we have far too many unproven guys ranked too high and that we are not giving enough consideration to those players in this draft class that are proven - pointing specifically to Tyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson as players that will go much higher than expected.
If you look back to 2004, most Mock Drafts had UCONN's star Ben Gordon slotted at #8 to Toronto, he'd ended up #3 to Chicago. In 2005, most Mock Drafts had Illinois star point guard Deron Williams going as low as 6th, he too ended up 3rd.
The point most talent evaluators were making is that when push comes to shove NBA teams still draft winners over prospects and that assuming Hansbrough and Lawson drop into the late teens and twenties might be foolish given the NBA's track record for drafting proven collegiate talent over bright young stars, especially those teams that are one player away from serious compitetion they are more likely to go with guys that played deep into March and April.
Alex Raskin covers the New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets; Joel Brigham covers the Chicago Bulls; Yannis Koutroupis covers College basketball and The San Antonio Spurs; Steve Kyler covers the NBA and the NBA Draft for HOOPSWORLD.

Hey Steve, no way Jennings falls to 22, way to talented, someone will pick him up before - guarenteed.

Are you sure he's healthy?... I'm not.

The one player Ryan Blake was most critical of was Brandon Jennings... not doubting the kids talent, but look at last year's draft - guys with questions tumble.

Alex, Derozen to fall to 12? u seriously think he wont get picked up before then?

Why would Charlotte add Holiday to Felton and Augustin?? More likely a 2 guard.

To Brettman: I actually think he is more of a lock to go in the top 10 now, but for a short while I was hearing contrary reports. Basically, as some move up, someone has to move down. DeRozan will be a good value, however, if he gets picked anywhere after the 5th overall.

DeRozan is gonna shine the second half of next NBA season...watch out! If toronto picks him up he really solidify that starting 5.

Kyler i c your not a huge fan of Jennings, so when he has his frst breakout game next year i can rub it in your face rite? :)

Millie - actually I am a fan of Jennings, got to know him a little last summer in Vegas before he went to Rome... thats said, I call them how I see it... I was told be several talent guys in Chicago that Jennings is more hype than substance and there are rumor he may have an injury which is likely why he opted not to play in Eurocamp next week.

The comparison a lot of people are making is Sebastian Telfair - all kinds of unproven potential. Ryan Blake openly questions his ability to run a team, and two NBA teams that I thought would have interest in Jennings said he's 4 or 5th on their list... I think he's a guy thats got to blow some people away in workouts.

"...when push comes to shove NBA teams still draft winners over prospects..." ???
That's a bit of a stretch to be mild. Looking past Ben Gordon and Deron Williams, how would you categorize high draft picks like Brandan Wright (8th in 2007), Tyrus Thomas (4th in 2006), Marvin Williams (2nd in 2005), all freshmen with little merit compared to clearly more accomplished players in their draft class?
For years, NBA teams have regularly gambled on high school players and foreign imports, while dumping experienced "winners" from the college ranks into the late first round or even second round.
Please...

Steve - If the Wolves draft turned out the way you just mocked, I would be a very happy fan. I was surprised to see all of you with Earl Clark's stock sliding... I thought his stock was up as of late. Has he taken a tumble for real?

The biggest steal in this draft will be wayne ellington---this kid is the truth. I can easily see someone picking him up alot earlier then anyone has him predicted to go. Heck he could have went last year and got picked up before anyone has him drafted this year, yes this class has more guards with a crap but none w/the skill set he actually has. He was a star on a team that national championship. Take him and put him at a school who did not have the athletes UNC had and I am willing to bet he be a lottery pick. Not trying to second guess anything anyone predicts but w/that said I predict he will be the steal of this draft.
