Totally agree Joel, this is the best news of the off-season for the bulls so far!
I hope we keep captain Kirk now!

The Contract Gordon got would have pushed the Bulls into the luxury tax. His total cost next year would have been in the much higher than 9m.

Wow I'm amazed that Bulls fans can talk themselves into thinking that losing the player that carried them in the playoffs is a good thing. The man just averaged nearly 25pts a game in that series at the age of 26. If he gets a better shot selection and learns to play better defense as he matures he will be a special player.

I heard the argument that while getting rid of Gordon doesn't hurt the team as much, but getting NOTHING IN RETURN for him is the blunder. We just let 20ppg just walk away. Shame on Paxon (who is still running the show right now, I believe).

Ben Gordon, or more likely his obstructionist agent Raymond Brothers(Grim), let $55 Million sit on the table for months and blew off another $50 Million dollar deal before that. Ben is the one who terminated his association with the Chicago Bulls. Truth be told, the Bulls will suffer somewhat for a lack of scoring without Ben. However, at a 42% field goal percentage for his career, and 38% in last year's playoffs, even though he'll win you games, he'll lose you just as many. He had some horrid shooting games that ruined the offensive flow in a couple of those Boston games. Do the Bulls want a .500 team enabled one game and then sabotaged the next by Big Ben. That's not to mention his serious problem guarding other SG's two to four inches taller then him. He really got burned by Ray Allen(51 points) in the playoffs. BY "losing" Ben Chicago will gain a chance to become a contender. Provided they can land a free agent who's a big time scorer or through trade.

Bulls should make a move for David lee since the knicks low balled him. Take back jefferies for our expiring contracts. If lee works out great if he does not then package him for bosh mid season. I'm sure the raptors would prefer lee over miller and Thomas

I'm so happy Gordon is going to the Pistons. As a Bulls fan I appreciate what Gordon provided us for the past five years. I also know that the team needed to spend that kind of money more wisely. We need a tall shooting guard that can defend better, Salmons for example, or even Rip Hamilton. Did Detroit just spend 55 million on a third guard, or is Gordon the new shooting guard for the Pistions?. I think the scoring Ben provided will be replaced by Rose, Salmons, Deng, Thomas, and maybe Johnson. Detroit is going to have to live or die by how hot Gordon's shot is. Believe me Gordon is not a consistant shooter like Rip Hamilton, but rather streaky one. Not to mention most of the shooting guards in this league are going to go for season highs in scoring against Gordon. I thought at age 26, Gordon was already close or at his peak. We'll see. It's time for DRose to be the man on the Bulls. I can't wait for the seasoon to start.

As a Magic fan, all that matters is the franchise player, Dwight Howard, making sure he plays and is the focal point. As a Bulls perspective, Derrick Rose is absolutely a franchise player, and now he has a definitive, better defending starting lineup, and more room to create for himself and others. It's still a loss, but once again Bulls came out big from that midseason deal because Salmons practically replaces him. And you dont tie yourselves into a team long term when you still want to improve the roster.

Glad he's gone. If anyone was watching the same playoffs I was watching, whenever Gordon led the team in scoring the Bulls lost. Check the stats. Great scorer - yes. Team improver - no way. Looking forward to seeing what the Bulls will do next.

Only thing about replacing Gordon's scoring is the Bulls are just below the luxury tax so they won't be able to sign free agents until next summer when over $25 Million in contracts expire. If they are to improve this summer it will have to be by trade. New G.M. Gar Forman had by all accounts a successful draft possibly acquiring a future star in James Johnson, but making shrewd trades for a talented player is something else again. Bulls fans will have to hope maybe he's up to it.

Thank you Joe "The Sucker" Dumars for taking Ben " The Offense flow killer" off the Bulls hands. I can't thank you enough for taking the 6' 0" NO D playing chemistry killing blackhole to Detriot to bring down the Pistons even further. You would have thought that the Iverson debacle would have taught Joe a lesson about an selfish undersized shooting guard who pouts and whines to the media about playing time and plays no defense. Now to my Bulls fans: Imagine the ball movement and flow of the offense with the ball in D Roses hands and salmons, Kirk and a healthy Deng and soon to come Bosh or Amar'e. And believe me James Johnson is a BALLER!BYE BYE BEN "BLACKHOLE, THE GUN, NO D, TURNOVER MACHINE, CHEMISTRY KILLER, CRYBABY, NO BASKETBALL IQ, NO HANDLES, POUTING, KING OF GARBAGETIME" Gordon! Don't let the door hit where the good lord .... you know the rest.

BG had a good run in Chicago, but good riddance...for some reason people seem to overlook the fact that Luol Deng was injured pretty much all season, which was great for Gordon because he knew he could get more touches than ever, and falsely increasing his value...Gordon thought he was the man and got his pride hurt when nobody offered him a giant deal, so in the end he didn't want to stay in Chicago. Bulls WILL be better without him

the bulls have a brighter future ahead. BG's defense is terrible. With a healthy Deng, they should do very well next year and have a lot of capspace as well

I so glad that they got rid of Ben. This would be a blessing to the franchise and their star player D.Rose. If only they get Bosh or Amare this summer through a trade then the Bulls are set for next season.

Something tells me th Bulls will miss BG. I've seen Salmons in Sac. He's not a better shooter than Gordan even when he's hot. Better D, yes, but BG is a major hole to fill and i think Deng won't have that great of a year with more offensive pressure on him. quote me. lol

Seriously, I will miss Gordon cuz he was an exciting player to watch. But at the same time this will do good for the Bulls. Gordon always wanted to be "The Man" and with him now gone, "The Man" can now be Rose. Rose and Deng together (and Salmons) will make up all the offense that Ben gave the Bulls. And with Deng being a slasher, it will help his offense with Rose being able to give smooth passes for an easy lay up. With a trade for Amare or Bosh, the Bulls can be a top 4 seed. Without a trade they will still be in the playoffs just not that high seeded. Also Deng will get more touches which means he will average more points and maybe reach his All-Star potential. And with Deng being able to develop more, the 2010 free agency class will see the Bulls have a star in Rose and a great third option scorer in Deng. So maybe Wade will want to come back home or the Bulls will attract a big. Either way, in the future this is all good for the Bulls. Can't wait til the season to start.
CHICAGO BULLS 2010-2011 NBA FINAL CHAMPIONS!!!

Gordon did not carry the Bulls into the playoffs, the addition of Salmons and Miller did.
The Bulls were 18-27 just before the trade, and 27-35 just after it. they finished 14-6(57-8 win pace) to make the playoffs.
Gordon averaged 30 ppg against the Celtics in the 4 loses, he averaged 18 ppg in the wins, so how exactly did he keep us in the Celtics series.
Finally, Gordon aveaged 20.something ppg in the Bulls 41 wins, and 20.something in the Bulls 41 loses. So apparently his scoring has zero affect on the Bulls winning or losing, or maybe as much as flipping a coin would.
The Bulls will be a better team without this unidimensional midget.
Hinrich would average 14-16 ppg with starter minutes at 2 guard. Since he is better than Gordon by a mile in every other basketball attribute other than scoring, how are we losing anything by replacing Gordon with Salmons(18ppg) and retaining Hinrich as the perfect combo 3 guard.
If every starter scores one basket more per game we more than make up for Gordons points, and that doesn't even take into account his attrocious individual and team defense. Perhaps we won't to see Ray Allen, D Wade, Michael Redd, and even JR Smith go for 50 against us.

lol... bulls fans are funny. they are happy they let the guy who carried the team to the postseason and took the champs to 7 games walk wawy for nothing? enjoy the lottery next season. mark my words. bg is a winner

Salmons is a much more efficient player. To all the Bulls fans dont worry about it the dude had NO type of conscience and could care less if he went 4-20. I'll give him credit for his skills as a magician, he always did that disappearing act when the Bulls were on D. @jh-BG hits clutch shots, but he takes so many dumb ones during the game that it puts them into those situations...7-23, 4-14, 6-21, 6-17, 5-13. Thats freakin terrible. I know in some of those games he hit the ones at the end but again, they would be in that situation if he realized that sometimes, its okay to pass the ball. I'll give him his props when hes hot hes HOT but when hes cold he is dead weight on the court.

It's amazing how a person like you would make a negative assessment about a good basketball player like Ben Gordon, when an experienced basketball mind like Joe Dumars has 55 to 60 million reasons why Ben Gordon will be one of the major players on a future championship team. Too bad it will never happen in Chicago.

Ive watched BG since his rookie season (the last 3 years Ive seen every Bulls game on League Pass)and you really have to look at his individual plus/minus to determine if he is worth 11 million per. For instance in Game 2 against the Celtics he had 42 pts, but Ray Allen matched him. I understand if it wasn't for BG hitting clutch shots in the 4th, the Bulls wouldn't have had a chance to win, however if a better defender was on Allen the Bulls would not of needed his heroics. In the 2006 playoffs Chauncy took BG in the post when ever he was on him, and Detroit quickly recognized and attacked him defensively. Obviously, they were successful. Even in game 4 of the Celtics series after he hit that amazing shot to send it into overtime, he seemed to force the issue in the extra period. While doing play by play, even Mark Jackson commented that Derek Rose has to take the ball out of BG's hands and run the offence. Maybe management saw that sequence as a prime example of BG trying to be the number one option , not being able to defer to DRose. BG failed to realize that because he was so on fire up to that point, DRose should have been able to utilize the open lane and create for everyone. It was a great pleasure watching BG7 in a Bulls uniform, and I will greatly miss his heroics, and sometimes 4 point plays. He was a true professional, and crazy clutch, but at 11 million per BG could not remain. I guess slowly there had to be a transformation with this roster, first Chris Du, then Noc, and finally BG7. Hopefully the future is brighter. Good Luck BG, just not against the Bulls.
