I love it. Small steps towards getting younger and staying competitive. Would rather them get a young center but there really arent any now that Gortat is gone.

Good move but if they singed him for over 5.8/ Year. might not be that great. Good on the fast break & way above average defender. Can't & will not bother to shoot the three unless he's wide open. HOU needs a player that draws attention to kick it out to Ariza in order to see everything you saw him do in L.A.

wow he goes from a chance at another title and a starter to taking turns as the sixth man he really needs a new agent

Ron was a much better defender and offensive threat...Houston needed to add more offense...Instead Yao is done and Artest is gone. They dont have a [healthy]guy that is even talented enough go for 20+ every night.

WHY?
Ariza is a good defensive SF who can hit spot up 3s but really has no off the dribble or post game. Wait I just described Shane Battier didn't I?
I hope Ariza got his $ becuase he just gave up most if not all his playoff money for the next couple of years.

The Rockets will now move Battier and Landry for another piece, sign a stop gap center option like Varejo and then be all in for Bosh in 2010.

Their new starting Small Forward, now their going to trade Brooks and Battier for Rubio and look around for some other free agents. Just a guess

He averaged 8 and 5 . . .I think he did pretty well considering the Lakers moved on. He'll play a signficant role in Houston. McGrady will never get healthy.

Two things to consider: Artest took less than market value, while Ariza took the highest offer on the market. While Houston did a nice job of filling the gap, they overpaid. On the other hand, Ron-Ron comes as a bargain to the Lakers. The defensive versatility that Artest and Odom (if) would be unmateched in the league. Plus, Artest has a post game, he wont have to force threes because of Kobe and Pau (he will be open, like Ariza) AND he gives the Lakers a real shot at re-signing Odom.
I can see the points of the skepticism, but there is a huge difference between Ron being the 2nd or 3rd option for Houston and being the 4th option on the Lakers, as Ariza was.
Its the reason why Devean George is still making millions in the NBA.
People do not give Kobe enough credit for his elevation of his teammates. It has less to do with the triangle or his passing; I am talking about the attention he commands and how much his presence spreads out the floor

Ariza's agent screws his client and gets paid for doing that too. It is mindboggling to see it going down this way. Ariza does not get much more money than the Lakers' offer, his family being in the L.A. area, and his chance of getting another ring diminishes greatly. Not to mention playoffs share.

lakers were said to be going to match anything that's in the MLE. are they going to match or propose a sign and trade?

ha...lol...Ariza is stupid no way I'll give up a starting spot on the Lakers...some people would pay to play for the lakers...and this clown leaves for the same money the lakers were offering or a little less...stupid...and then he doesn't even go to a contender...the Rockets...lol...terrible...tell your agent to step his game up cause you...just...got...punked...lol

you are so right on your statement. They will never give Kobe his true credit. I hate to see Ariza go. But that was a stupid move by him. Oh well

i feel bad for Trevor, he leaves his freakin' hometown team(the one he grew up watchin) right after his Laker Legacy was about to grow, he just won the ultimate Trophy and goes to the Rockets who just lost Ron-Ron, Yao(4 the season), and T-Mac(he'll retire-hopefully), their best player is now A.Brooks(a scoring PG), Trevor most likly will play behind Shane... he'll still likely get plenty steals but he'll have to return to a slasher-type role on offense because Houston doesnt have anyone who'll dominate on offense that's healthy...

Wow. How many times has a player in his contract year that has played his first good season been successful on a multiyear deal like this? Not many I'm guessing. With no Kobe or Kobe type player around to draw double teams, I don't see how Ariza succeeds on the offensive side of the ball. He's like Shane Battier lite. And why pay for that for 5 years when you've already got the real thing? Poor move by HOU.

Obviously I'm shattered to see Ron go, but Ariza is a nice replacement. And I really think Oberto is going to be a nice pick-up. He's a good defender and he'll be cheap. Morey working wonders once again. I personally see us battling it out with Phoenix and Golden State for the 8th Seed in the West, the other 7 teams from last season's Playoffs are a LOCK for mine.

R-Test claimed that he would wait and talk w. HOUSTON, that it wasnt all over b/c YAO went down and out,(RE:YAO went down and Ron dissapeared for the remainder of the series). Now we get Ariza(surprised) whos younger and extends the floor. NOW, Morey needs to concentrate on bringing M. Gortat on board, b/c a CENTER is the real missing LINK.....
