The Los Angeles Clippers announced on Monday that rookie forward Blake Griffin has suffered a stress fracture of the left patella.  He'll be out up to six weeks.

Griffin has been a ray of sunshine for the Clippers who are looking to rebound from a miserable year.  Not only is Blake one of LA's most talented players - he's also one of the most energetic and hard working.

It's certainly a substantial setback.  Marcus Camby has been hobbled with a bad ankle.  He'll need to accelerate his return as the projected starter.  If he's not ready on opening night, Coach Mike Dunleavy may need to go small with forward Al Thornton.

The Clippers will open at the Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday night.  Forward Pau Gasol is questionable - and probably doubtful.  Thornton may not be at much of a disadvantage going up against Lamar Odom.

Dunleavy can also turn to reserve Craig Smith who recently put up 26 points on the Lakers in just 22 minutes.

The bigger question is what affect will losing Griffin will have on the Clippers mentally.  Last year the team just couldn't stay healthy despite great expectations.

This season there was a brewing confidence and chemistry that the bad times were history.  It'll be crucial for the team to rally despite the setback.  The season is a lot longer than six weeks but if the Clippers go into an early funk - as they did a year ago - ugly can happen quickly.

Greg Oden Part 2

Blake Griffin is a bust! Write him off. Cast him away. He is worse than Greg Oden. Blake is injury prone. Blake is the next Danny Manning. I bet the Clips sure wish they took #2 pick Hasheem Thabeet. Thabeet is better than Durant. Wow, this is like 1984 all over again. Blake will never be an all-star now. He should be a serviceable big man who grabs rebounds. Wow, he'll never live up the hype of being #1 pick.

I think several of you need to have your sarcasm detectors checked. Obviously "Stupid Media" is a Trailblazers Truther.

Biglis and Calvin, how dumb could you be? You really can't tell that stupid media's post was sarcasm, making fun of writers like Joel Brigham and Simmons from Espn and many others for writing off Oden for some unlucky injuries. Blake is my dawg and is going to strait up dominate! Were just going to have to be patient just like the Blazer fans have been. Blake's time will come soon enough

Blake hurt, Clippers fans must be crying right now. I was looking forward to watching him play, pre season he was destroying big men. All you Clips fans out there if there is one positive from Blake being out, it's his mouth on the bench-it could rub off!

@Stupid Media: your comments were funny, hilarious really! Don't think a lot of the readers caught your tongue-in-cheek sarcasm. Nice comments!
