Brandon Roy has heard it before, so it's okay to ask. Just be ready for some honesty along the way.
Voting for the NBA All-Star Game comes to a close in nine days, and up to this point it appears Roy will be on the outside looking in with Kobe Bryant and an injured Tracy McGrady receiving the majority of votes as the starting guards in the West.
But still that hasn't stopped people from asking Roy his thoughts on playing in New Orleans on Sunday, February 18th for the 57th All-Star Game.
"Every once and a while people will bring it up," Roy told HOOPSWORLD before the Portland Trail Blazers embark on a seven-game road trip which starts Sunday in Toronto.
Can you blame them?
In his second year in the league, Roy has led the surprising Blazers to first in the Northwest Division (22-13) sparked by a 13-game win streak last month, is averaging 18.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game, and has taken home Western Conference Player of the Week honors home twice in a row so far this season.
Yet even Roy knows his chances of surpassing the likes of Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Allen Iverson, Manu Ginobili, and even Baron Davis for the two or three reserve spots on the 12-man roster may be wishful thinking.
"I wouldn't be disappointed because I haven't put all my hope into it. There are a lot of great players who didn't make it their second year. But it would be a huge honor to do it.
"I'm not going to put all my eggs into that basket. We're having a great season."
For now, the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year's All-Star fate is in the hand's of each conferences head coach who will select alternates, with Paul surely a lock to play in his host city. The NBA only publishes the top ten vote getters in each position, which means Roy has received less than 212,320 (Jerry Stackhouse rounds out the top ten) total votes.
Actually, Roy does have one more option.
He could pull a Chris Bosh who is raking in the votes and views after his hilarious YouTube, "Vote For Chris Bosh" video, where the Toronto Raptors forward sells you on sending him to New Orleans.
"Nah, I'm not going to do one," Roy laughed.
Hey, it doesn't hurt to ask.
