"Rasheed Wallace, Tayshaun Prince, Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace?"
Wait, they're going to short-sell Rasheed? Trade him twice?

Obvioulsy a misprint on my part. However, I don't know if you've had a chance to listen to Joe Dumars in the last 48 hours, but he would probably be open to trading Sheed twice if it was in any way humanly possible. :)

This trade scenario you laid out is pretty intriging however as a Pistons fan who watches all their games, Chauncy's defense is not as good as you might think. He is bigger than Iverson obviously, but smaller younger guards are starting to blow by Chauncy as he ages. Food for thought.

I would really like that trade from Detroits standpoint... Kleiza would be a nice addition alternating between him and Maxiell. Camby and Prince would be a nice shot blocking combo. Iverson would be perfect becuz he CAN pass and this would be the first VETERAN/PROFESSIONAL minded team he would be a part of. Plus you know he would respect Joe Dumars. Good article!!

That's an interesting idea you propose, Owen. Prince would give the Nugs the defensive presence George Karl has been coveting. However, I think it might take more to pry Melo away just based on the conversations I've had with people in Denver's organization. Dave, you also make a good point about Chauncey. I would agree that he is not a great defender and seems to have lost a step. That said, he seems willing to defend, which is something Denver needs more of. Kayyce, Iverson is a capable passer. However, he tends to over-dribble and this could neutralize some of Rip's effectiveness (not mention frustrate him).

Overall not a bad trade proposal. However, I seriously doubt Dumars would do the AI for Billups part. It is well known/speculated in Detroit that Dumars turned down an AI for Billups trade prior to AI going to Denver. I doubt that anything that has happened these past two seasons that has changed his mind, especially with AI being 33. AI’s game is dependent on quickness and speed which starts to escape athletes around that age where Billups strength is his size, shooting ability and passing. I could see Dumars exploring the Sheed for Camby and Kleza part but doubt the Billups/AI part would happen. Sheed for Camby/Kleza is actually pretty realistic given Sheed’s big expiring contract, Camby still having 2 years left and Klezia in the last year of his deal (which Denver probably will not pickup since they already have big contracts with Nene, Martin and Melo all playing his SF/PF position). Plus what you mentioned about AI and Hamilton is probably enough to stop the trade already. Take away the Billups/AI part and I think we may have a deal.

Another trade I like is the one Owen posted but I also believe you would have to give up more for Melo (and take more back in bad contracts). My trade looks like this:
Sheed, Prince, Maxiel, 09 1st round pick , possible protected 1st round pick
For
Melo,Nene,Hunter
Both my trades work in real GM (not that really means anything other than they work out cap wise).

As a Pistons fan, I wouldn't touch Melo with a 10-foot pole. Interesting that so many Nugget fans seem to be eager to trade him. He is the antithesis of a Piston: work ethic, character, team-first, defense. 0 for 4.

This is truly the worst idea for a trade (from the Pistons' perspective) that I've seen yet!

Great story. Would Denver ever think of parting with Melo, say packaged with Kleiza for Wallace, Prince, and McDyess?

the author offers a real poo poo platter in exchange for the pistons players. iverson and camby? why would the pistons trade one set of aging inadequates for another?

That trade will not work mr. Heath.Iverson probably wouldnt succeed in the Piston's halfcourt offense as a pg.With the Pistons trading Chauncey Billups,Iverson would have to play the pg.Then you have the Nuggets with Rasheed Wallace,Kenyon Martin,Antonio Mcdyess, and Nene all trying to log minutes. Not only that but the Nuggets already have 25 million invested in Nene and K Mart.I doubt they want either one of them coming off the bench and I doubt Wallace would want to either. And in final I just dont think either team would get better.I would have to think the Nuggets get the better half of the deal. They get a pg and they already have someone to fill Iverson's shoes in J.R. Smith. The Pistons however would have a frontcourt crisis and a pg dilemma.Jason Maxiell isnt a starter in the NBA and I doubt Joe Dumars would be comfortable with Iverson playing the pg.Id rather see Prince,Billups,Maxiell, and a 1st rounder for Melo and Camby. That way both teams dont have significant problems with their starting lineups. You'd have Billups,Iverson,Prince,Martin,Nene for the Nuggets. Then Wallace,Mcdyess,Carmelo,Hamilton,Stuckey. You'd still have Wallace and or Mcdyess for trade bait.Theres been rumors that Wallace could be traded to the Bobcats for a player and their top 10 pick. That would give the Pistons a young core to build around yet still be competetive.

Great takes, everyone. The thing that is most striking to me after communicating with a number of Piston fans over the course of the last 72 hours or so is how split people seem to be at the prospect of acquiring Melo. Some love the idea and others just hate it. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground on this one. I will say this, though: if the Pistons want Melo, they are going to have to come get him. The Nugs aren't going to give him away. The Pistons are going to have to give up a lot to get Melo, probably more than most Piston fans would want to. I'm not saying he's necessarily worth that much, I'm just telling you that is what it's going to take to get him. I think Denver would be much more willing to part with Iverson due to the simple fact that he's 33 years of age. And for those who say Iverson is slowing down, he really isn't. Trust me, I've covered the guy and seen every game he's played since he arrived in Denver. Does he have his faults? Sure, but these are the same faults he's always had and really have nothing to do with age. That said, it's reasonable to believe that he might start slowing down in the next couple of years, but he's still a guy who can play 40+ minutes a night at present. I think Billups will actually break down before Iverson. Finally, my proposal is just one possibility among many. My point was that there is a deal to made here. The final shape that deal might take is not yet known. And Tripp Dubb, I respect your take man, but the Nugs having Nene, K-Mart, Wallace and McDyess vying for minutes is no different than last season when they had K-Mart, Camby, Nene and Eddie competing for minutes. Under this regime the Nuggets have always believed the more bigs the better, especially with the injury history of Nene and K-Mart. Also, it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility that the Nugs pull-off more than one trade this summer if they do end up overloaded at any one position. However, as I said, the Nugs believe the more bigs the better.
