No matter how well the New Orleans Hornets played last season, they lacked the veteran experience necessary to put together a deep playoff run. That has changed thanks to the recent acquisition of James Posey.

The Hornets finally have a proven championship winner and their youngest player couldn't be happier.

"I think he's going to be a great add," Julian Wright told HOOPSWORLD at the Las Vegas Summer League. "He obviously has a lot of playoff experience, a lot of experience period, and that's what the Hornets have been looking for."

Wright, 21, had a sneaking suspicion Hornets' General Manager Jeff Bower had a master plan when he traded away their first round draft pick in June. As it turns out, the organization built on young talent was in search of more experience, not potential. They agreed to a four-year deal worth $25 million with Posey, a nine-year veteran just a month after the helped the Boston Celtics win the NBA Championship.

"I'm pretty sure the GM and coaching staff are trying to put together something for us to be a power in the west and to remain what we call an up-and-coming team," Wright said. "I just look at it as we're just trying to get guys that are about winning and are defensive-minded and can just come in and give us a lot."

Wright is no stranger to Posey's game. He watched him win two titles in three years coming off the bench for the Celtics and Miami Heat. From what he has seen, Wright thinks the sixth man will be a perfect match for the Hornets often inconsistent reserves.

"I've seen what he brings and he plays hard. Obviously experience is what we're going for where we have a young nucleus," Wright said, adding, "I think he fits the make up of our team right now. He can score the ball, he's a good shooter. [Head] coach (Byron) Scott and the staff are really about defense and just the energy and that's something that whichever five of us is on the court, that's what coach wants out of us. So I don't feel like we're going to lose a step."

Posey joins the Hornets bench as Wright is working to earn more minutes as a role player. However Wright sees his new teammate as a contributor, not competition to his game. Posey is an outside shooting, perimeter defender whereas Wright has been asked by Bower and Scott to become a more aggressive offensive playmaker.

"I think there's a lot that I can get from him in terms of experience," Wright said. "I'm one of the younger guys and we have so far a nucleus that hasn't accomplished much, as much as he has, so that's definitely going to be something that I'm going to try to look at and just better myself and ultimately help the team."

With Posey in the rotation, the Hornets are sure to accomplish more this season. Now that's something for Wright to be happy about.
