Amundson Spark’s Pacers off Bench
The 29-year-old (Lou Amundson) journeyman learned a long time ago there was only one way he’d survive in the league — through hard work and hustle. That attitude prompts Pacers fans to chant “Louuuu” when the reserve forward enters a game, and that attitude keeps his NBA pulse beating.
As Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw said, and as the fans clearly understand, “It’s not like there are teams out there game-planning against Lou Amundson.”
He has averaged just four points per game in a six-year NBA career with five teams. Yet he has scraped his way to a reliable role for a Pacers team that leads Miami 2-1 in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinals.
“Lou’s a spark,” teammate Tyler Hansbrough said. “He offers so many things for us — his rebounding, the way he runs the floor. He gives us a boost.”
