Andre Iguodala is finally a champion.

Iguodala, a Springfield native and 2002 Lanphier High School graduate, brought home the gold medal from the men’s basketball tournament at the 2012 London Olympics last month.

In eight Olympic games for the unbeaten United States, he scored 34 points, had 22 rebounds and played his brand of stifling defense that many NBA opponents know well.

His minutes varied from 2 minutes 30 seconds in the fourth pool-play game against Lithuania to more than 20 minutes against Nigeria and Argentina, also in pool play. He said he had to be ready for whenever his number was called.

Iguodala said going back to the Olympics in 2016 would pique his interest.

“That would definitely be something I’d consider,” Iguodala said. “I’d think heavily about. It was a great experience. I want to play for the team again and defend the gold medal.”
