Anthony Davis compares injury to Grant Hill’s

So much for all the momentum Anthony Davis had heading into his highly anticipated rookie season.
Four months removed from a gold medal performance with Team USA at the London Olympics, the New Orleans Hornets forward and top pick of the 2012 NBA draft is expected to be out until early December while recovering from a stress reaction in his left ankle. He has been sidelined since Nov. 17 with the injury.
It’s the continuation of what has been a miserable debut campaign for the Hornets and Davis, who was forced to sit out two games in early November with a mild concussion and will have missed six of 12 games in all after the Hornets play Sunday night at the Denver Nuggets.
Davis told The Times-Picayune of New Orleans on Sunday that he hoped to return in a week or two. And the Hornets, who entered Sunday 3-8, will be elated if that turns out to be the case. It’s the worst-case scenario in play here that likely has team officials and Hornets fans on edge, one that Davis himself acknowledged was playing a part in the team’s medical staff taking the careful approach.
“You know the whole Grant Hill story, so they wanted to be very cautious with the way I handled things,” Davis told The Times-Picayune.
Hill, who has yet to debut with the Los Angeles Clippers this season because of a bone bruise, had the look of a future Hall of Famer before chronic ankle injuries sidelined him for the better part of five seasons with the Orlando Magic in the early 2000s. The 40-year-old is a medical marvel of sorts now simply because he’s still in the league at his advanced age. But Hill, the No. 3 pick for Detroit out of Duke in 1994 who averaged at least 19.9 points, five assists and 6.4 rebounds per game in his first five seasons, was never the same after the ankle problems set in.
