“Sings” may not be the most apt description of what Charles Barkley did to Boyz II Mens’s ’90s classic “End of the Road” while at a karaoke bar this week in North Carolina. He augmented his normal speech by elongating words, used his diaphragm to alter the timbre of his voice and helped resonate the amplified tones with his larynx, but “singing” may be stretching it.
Barkley, and the bar patrons, were saved when members of the real Boyz II Men, who were in Raleigh for the same charity event, came on stage.

Boyz II Men and Barkley were Philadelphia’s best exports in the early 1990s. Fun fact: Chuck was traded to Phoenix 13 days before “End of the Road” was released as a single. The song would stay at No. 1 for a record 13 weeks later that year.
Barkley would later take literally B2M’s suggestion of consuming “all the Philly steaks you could eat” while coolin’ on South Street.
Why aren’t Boyz II Men still popular? That tall guy looks and sounds exactly the same. You’re telling me Babyface can’t write a catchy song about unrequited love any more? I don’t believe it!
