Barkley scoffs at idea of Knicks being contender
Charles Barkley is certainly not impressed with the New York Knicks. In fact, the Hall of Famer nearly laughed at the notion of the Knicks being a contender.
“They’re not very good,” Barkley said on ESPN New York 1050′s “The Mike Lupica Show.”
“Well, let’s see: they don’t play defense, they don’t rebound the ball and they don’t have a point guard. Other than that, everything’s lovely with them.”
When Lupica asked Barkley for his thoughts on the Knicks’ chances to compete in the Eastern Conference, the current TNT analyst blurted, “Oh, not even close.”
The Knicks (6-5) trail the upstart Philadelphia 76ers (7-3) in the Atlantic Division. Chicago (10-2), Orlando (8-3), Miami (8-3), Atlanta (8-4) and Indiana (7-3) all have better records than New York in the Eastern Conference.
