Welcome to Bracket Briefing, our attempt to ensure that readers won’t have to wait until March to know who C.J. McCollum is.
Team of the Week: No. 25 Wyoming
Larry Shyatt knows his Wyoming basketball team is one of four undefeated teams in the country.
The coach with 36 years of college experience also knows the Cowboys aren’t constructed like the other undefeated teams — No. 1 Duke, No. 2 Michigan and No. 3 Arizona. He sees those teams as Lexus, Ferrari and Lamborghini cars that look cool on television.
“I think our team is like a Toyota Camry,” Shyatt said. “We have to do a lot of things well to compete and get over the hump.”
Wyoming became ranked in a national poll for the first time since 1988 on Monday with its No. 25 ranking in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. Shyatt knows there’s a lot to be excited about in Laramie, where Wyoming is the only four-year institution in the state.
But he wants to make sure no one mistakes his team for anything it’s not with the Cowboys starting Mountain West play tonight against Boise State.
“We’re in a position to be in a position to win the conference, and that’s a great position,” Shyatt said.

Plus, a road win against an Illinois State team that was expected to challenge in the Missouri Valley doesn’t look as good now that the Redbirds have started 0-4 in the MVC.
Wyoming’s names to know: Southern California transfer Leonard Washington (15.1 points, 8.8 rebounds per game) is the team’s main catalyst while the biggest name on the roster is sophomore forward Larry Nance … [For more on Bracket Briefing: Wyoming coach compares his team to Toyota Camry, click here.]
