The projected No. 1 seeds entering the weekend were Indiana, Miami, Michigan State and Duke.

The projected No. 1 seeds afterward are Indiana, Duke, Michigan State and Miami.

The names didn’t change. The order did thanks to Miami’s loss at Wake Forest on Saturday. And the Hurricanes might not be long for a top slot.

Miami faces its toughest conference test on paper Saturday when it visits Duke. But its margin of error is smaller the rest of the way for another reason.

The Hurricanes now own a pair of losses to teams outside the top 100 of the RPI (Florida Gulf Coast and Wake Forest). That’s as many 100+ losses as No. 1 seed contenders Duke, Florida, Georgetown, Gonzaga, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State and Syracuse have combined.

Granted, Kansas’ loss at Texas Christian and Georgetown’s stumble at South Florida don’t help those respective teams, but Miami’s the only top seed contender to suffer such a loss twice. The Hurricanes hold a tenuous grip on the last No. 1 seed in Monday’s projection, but another misstep like Saturday’s could easily end their chances of entering the NCAA tournament on the top line next month.
