Bulls, Cavs Make Offers For Robinson

It is not news that the Houston Rockets are trying to unload Thomas Robinson for a mid-to-late first round pick so that they can draft an international player to stash overseas, thereby creating enough cap space to offer Dwight Howard a maximum contract. What is news, however, is that the Chicago Bulls (pick #20) and Cleveland Cavaliers (pick #19) are both in “advanced talks” to acquire last June’s fifth overall draft selection, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.
According to K.J. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, however, the Bulls have also had some conversations with lottery teams to see what it would take to move up in the draft. They are not planning on trading Luol Deng to get that lottery selection (as Johnson and several others have likely rightfully pointed out), but having paid the luxury tax for the first time in team history last year, and with four players pulling in eight-figure salaries next season, the Bulls are looking for inexpensive talent and sort of have to use the draft as the avenue to find it.
Whether they acquire Thomas Robinson or actually use the 20th pick on Thursday, Chicago wants to bring in as much talent for as little cost as possible. That’s why it’s so easy to believe there’s truth behind these kinds of rumors coming out of Chicago.
