Butler takes down No. 1 Indiana

The Butler Bulldogs have upset No. 1 Indiana 88-86 in overtime at the Crossroads Classic in Indianapolis.

Alex Barlow won the game for Butler by hitting a floater in the lane to give the Bulldogs the lead with 2.3 seconds left. A last-ditch heave by Indiana fell short and Butler had handed the top-ranked Hoosiers their first loss of the season.

The Bulldogs were led by 19 points from Rotnei Clark and 16 more from Roosevelt Jones.

Butler trailed by four with under two minutes to play in overtime before consecutive three-pointers from Clark and Chase Stigall gave the Bulldogs a two-point lead with less than a minute in overtime.

Cody Zeller tied with game with a layup in the lane with just under 20 seconds left.

Indiana was led by Zeller and Victor Oladipo, who had 18 points, four assists and four steals. Zeller finished with 18 points and five rebounds.

Butler fought back for the win in overtime after holding a three-point lead in the closing seconds of regulation. But Indiana’s Yogi Ferrell sank a three-pointer to tie the game with :06.1 left on the clock.

Butler’s Chase Stigall missed a three-pointer just before the buzzer in regulation.
