Kentucky coach John Calipari is a great recruiter. He also gets social media — as evidenced by his website and his Twitter account, which has more than a million followers.
So Calipari also understands the impact a video about Kentucky players’ housing could have. Especially when it shows off some pretty awesome perks, like comfy recliners in a players’ lounge, a pool table and a personal chef. Who wouldn’t want to come to Lexington and stay in these state-of-the-art apartment-style dorm rooms designed to house 7-footers comfortably?
On Friday, CoachCal.com posted a video tour of the new dormitory, which cost $7 million to build and was privately funded.
The Wildcat Coal Lounge will house Kentucky players beginning this season. It’s located right next to the team’s practice facility, and it’s incredible. There are photos of Kentucky’s most famous players, lists of those who are playing in the NBA now and inspirational quotes all over the place.
If you want to be very jealous of what “kids these days” — err, star college basketball players these days — get to live in, definitely check out the whole video.
As Calipari says to end the video, it’s setting a “new gold standard” for athlete housing.
