The Ohio State Buckeyes and Marquette Golden Eagles were set to tip off their seasons at 7 p.m. Friday on the U.S.S. Yorktown in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

But any open-air game is subject to change.

The Carrier Classic was delayed because condensation on the court made for an unsafe playing surface.

In an interview with NBC Sports Network, Marquette coach Buzz Williams said the teams were waiting 20 minutes for the temperature to cool before making a decision on whether to play the game.

“We can’t put these guys’ health in jeopardy,” said Williams, who was shown mopping the floor with a towel. “That’s not the right thing to do. That’s not what any of us would do as parents, even though we all want to play. As of right now, it’s not the right decision to play.”

Williams maintained that his team would have no problem canceling the game if conditions didn’t improve.
