Cavs F Casspi won’t join Maccabi Tel Aviv
Cleveland Cavaliers forward Omri Casspi will not join Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv due to tax issues, Eurobasket.com reported Tuesday.
Last week, the Jerusalem Post reported that Casspi, the only Israeli player in the NBA, would be joining Maccabi during the NBA lockout. But a meeting between the sides was unable to resolve the tax problems his transfer would create.
Casspi first joined Maccabi in 2005 as a 17-year-old. He was a 2009 first-round pick of the Sacramento Kings and averaged 9.5 points in two seasons before being traded to Cleveland in June.
Maccabi Tel Aviv also has signed New Jersey Nets guard Jordan Farmar, who has a Jewish background.
