Boston Celtics Head Coach Doc Rivers said center Kevin Garnett suffered something similar to a hip pointer during Tuesday’s loss to the New York Knicks in Game 2 of an Eastern Conference first-round series at Madison Square Garden. Rivers stressed the injury is not serious and he does not expect it to keep Garnett off the floor moving forward.
Garnett is expected to participate in practice Thursday and be in the starting lineup for Friday’s Game 3 at TD Garden. Garnett sat out 10 of the final 13 games of the regular season because of ankle inflammation and strategic rest.
“He got hit in the — it’s not the hip flexor, [but] a hip pointer. It was very similar to having a hip pointer in football, I guess,” Rivers said. “It was affecting him. I was concerned that he had done something else, because where he was grabbing his hip, but I thought it was his stomach, where you pull a stomach muscle or something. That’s why I think in a couple timeouts, I kept asking if he was OK. And he is. He’s good.”
