Danny Ainge: ‘Rondo knows that we love him’
Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said that he had no intention of trading guard Rajon Rondo.
When asked that specific question, Ainge replied, “I’m not, no.”
Ainge then said that he would talk directly to Rondo about the latest turn of events which reportedly had Boston kicking the tires on possibly acquiring New Orleans Hornets star guard Chris Paul.
“Rondo will be fine, Rondo knows that we love him. He knows that we like him,” Ainge said. “He’s excited to come back and play basketball, in my opinion. He gets a lot of attention. He’s a great player.
“There’s a lot of people that call me and ask me about Rondo. So, how these rumors get out, it’s unfortunate, but we didn’t leak those rumors out. We’ll deal with it. He’ll be fine.”
ESPN reported earlier this week that the Celtics were eying a possible Rondo-for-Paul swap. Paul noted earlier this week that he wouldn’t sign a long-term extension with Boston, thereby putting an end to the deal.
