Celtics SF Pierce could sit out
Boston Celtics small forward Paul Pierce is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Charlotte Bobcats.Pierce injured his left big toe in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 94-82 win over the New Jersey Nets. He had previously talked to head coach Doc Rivers about taking time off before the postseason, and with the injury and the 7-51 Bobcats on the schedule, Sunday seems like a perfect time. With versatile guard Mickael Pietrus back from a concussion, Boston does have some depth to fill Pierce’s spot in the starting. However, veteran shooting guard Ray Allen, who has been coming off the bench in recent weeks, is doubtful with an ankle injury.Pierce scored 17 points in Saturday’s win and is averaging just over 19 points and 5.4 rebounds a game this season. Boston (35-25) is first in the Atlantic Division and holds the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference standings, 10.5 games back of the first-place Chicago Bulls.
