Childress, Young, James on Nets’ Radar?

Donte Greene suffered an injury that likely includes at least a fractured ankle playing in a pick-up game in Charlotte. And yet today, while waiting to head for an MRI that would clarify the nature and extent of his injury, the 24-year-old, 6-11 small forward who was expected to be in Nets’ training camp, was “in great spirits,” according to his agent, Chris Luchey.
That’s how much Greene wants to be a part of Brooklyn.
“I’ve spoken to him repeatedly (since the injury) and he’s in great spirits,” Luchey said. “He’s so excited for the opportunity.”
There are fears it could be worse than a simple fracture and so the Nets will perform their due diligence and check with remaining free agents, players such as Josh Childress, Sam Young or their own Damion James as a possible backup to Gerald Wallace should Greene’s situation result in a likely long term absence.
But when he could be ready can’t even be estimated without the MRI. The injury was first reported by Yahoo! Sports.
“I expect him to be a Net,” Luchey said, indicating he simply did not know when because there obviously is no timeframe for rehab. “The Nets can create all sorts of matchup problems for opponents. Donte has never had this opportunity to play with a boatload of veteran guys, or a point guard of (Deron Williams’) caliber. But first, we need to, in order, get the medical results, surgery and rehab.”
