Clippers Make Billups Re-Signing Official

On Friday, the Los Angeles Clippers have re-signed free agent guard Chauncey Billups.

Billups is expected to get about $4.2 million on a one-year deal.

The Clippers originally acquired Chauncey on an amnesty claim from the New York Knicks.  Midway through the season, Billups tore his Achilles’ which may keep him out through training camp and the start of the season.

Both Billups and the Clippers hope he can return sooner, and Chauncey is said to be making strong progress, but there still may be a delay.  Chauncey indicated early on in the process he wanted to stay and teammate Chris Paul lobbied on his behalf.

Assuming Billups did indeed sign a one year deal, since the Clippers have his Bird Rights, Chauncey will have an implicit no trade clause.
