The Los Angeles Clippers announced on Monday that they have parted ways with Vice President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey.
On Friday the Los Angeles Clippers sent out a release stating the team had “an agreement in principle . . . between the team and Vice President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey.”
Clearly something fell apart over the weekend.
“Circumstances have obviously undergone some movement since our announcement Friday. In light of that, we want to wish Neil well and acknowledge his contributions during the time he spent with the Clippers,” said Clippers’ President Andy Roeser.
Sources close to Olshey confirm he will be announced as the general manager of the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.
Olshey has been operating without a contract over the past number of months but it appeared that issue with the Clippers was resolved and the team would turn to preparing for the offseason.
The release noted, “A teleconference is planned for Monday, June 4th. Timing and access details will be announced that morning.”
As of late Monday, there was some considerable buzz that the deal had hit a snag.
Now the Clippers are already searching for a replacement but in the meantime Olshey’s duties will be “absorbed” by Coach Vinny Del Negro, Director of Player Personnel Gary Sacks and Roeser.
