Coach K smiles with Louisville after loss

Following a 85-63 loss to Louisville in the Elite Eight last weekend, Duke head coach Mike Kyrzyzewski was a good sport in the post-game and took a picture with some of the Cardinals’ star players.
Russ Smith posted a picture of himself alongside teammates Peyton Siva and Gorgui Dieng posing with Coach K on Instagram Thursday night. It seems odd that a coach would be willing to take a picture with a group of players that just beat up on his team, but this was a special circumstance.
Louisville and Duke had just played one of the more stunning games in NCAA Tournament history. When Kevin Ware went down, players and coaches from both teams were incredibly emotional.
Though Louisville has a decorated coach of its own in Rick Pitino, it’s understandable why these players wanted to take advantage of such a photo op.
As mentioned in Smith’s Instagram photo caption, Duke and Louisville played twice this season. In the first meeting, the Blue Devils won 76-71 in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in November.
