Coach Thibodeau Uncertain of Rose’s Return

Derrick Rose, although inactive for Saturday’s game, sat on the Bulls’ bench for just the second time this season, not too long after coach Tom Thibodeau again wouldn’t rule out the point guard returning in the playoffs.
The former MVP still hasn’t played since undergoing ACL surgery in May of last year — and he was in street clothes for Game 1 of the first round against Brooklyn — but Thibodeau said that could change with something as simple as Rose waking up with a different mindset.
Rose was medically cleared last month and has been practicing with the team, but can’t clear the necessary mental hurdles to play in games.
“I guess there’s always a chance,” Thibodeau said. “He’s worked extremely hard and he wants to be out there really badly. He can’t quite make that final step. Until he can do that, we’re just going to have to remain patient. As I mentioned (Saturday) morning, it’s unlikely he’ll play. But the way the playoffs are structured, maybe a week from now he’ll make that final step. So I don’t want to rule it out.”
