Corey Brewer plays basketball professionally for the Denver Nuggets. He won two NCAA championships at Florida and an NBA title with the Dallas Mavericks.

But Terrence Howard’s character in Movie 43, the Peter Farrelly ensemble-cast comedy opening Friday, doesn’t need that kind of evidence to know he’s got a star.

“What game are we playing?” Howard, as Coach Jackson, asks in the scene that opens the trailer.

“Basketball, coach,” replies Brewer, acting in his first movie.

“What color is their skin?” Howard asks, indignantly.

“White,” Brewer replies, keeping a befuddled look on his face.

Sure enough, Howard’s all-black team faces a group of players named White Guy 1, White Guy 2, White Guy 3, White Guy 4 and White Guy 5, according to IMDb.com. It’s all part of the “Victory’s Glory” portion of Movie 43, which takes 12 vignettes, each with its own director and cast, and weaves them into one movie.

Brewer was one of three NBA players used for Howard’s team, joining Phoenix Suns swingman Jared Dudley and Milwaukee Bucks center Larry Sanders.

“It was kind of on a whim, but I always thought it would be fun to do some acting,” Brewer said Monday by phone. “I did a little acting when I was in high school, but this was my first time doing anything big.”

Howard, who was nominated for best actor for 2005′s Hustle & Flow, was the big star in the “Victory’s Glory” set, and Brewer said working with Howard was his favorite part of the experience. There were some things to get used to, of course, when dropping in on Hollywood life. The star treatment takes on a whole new meaning.

Who has it better, former teammate Dirk Nowitzki or Howard?

“I’d probably say Terrence Howard,” Brewer said. “He has everything in his trailer (while Nowitzki has a locker like every other player).

“We had our own little dressing rooms.”

Brewer wouldn’t give away much about Movie 43 and added he only had seen his own part. But he did laugh at playing basketball with some of the actors.

“I wouldn’t say they were any good,” Brewer said. “But it was fun shooting around with them.”
