Craft explains appeal to over-50 crowd

DAYTON, Ohio — A day before his second-seeded Buckeyes were to face No. 15 seed Iona, point guard Aaron Craft learned that he had some very special admirers.

A television reporter informed Craft that, after talking with women who in the UD Arena crowd, “It seems like you appeal to all age groups, including the over 50 and over 60. They love you.” He asked Craft, “What is your appeal, sir?”

Craft, who could not have possibly been expecting a question like this, handled the situation deftly.

“I don’t know, I don’t know,” Craft said, amid the laughter all around. “Just luck of the draw. I think publicity kind of helps a little bit, but if anything, it has to be the red cheeks. That, for whatever reason, that must do it.

“Whatever it is, I’ll just enjoy it. … I try. I try my best to appeal to everybody.”

Craft said his trademark rosy red cheeks are something he’s inherited from his family; his mother and brother both do the same thing.
