Danilo Gallinari’s circus shot wins tacos for fans

Danilo Gallinari might give that toddler named Titus a run for his money in the trick-shots department.
The Denver Nuggets forward put up an absolutely absurd shot late in Tuesday’s 112-104 win against the Milwaukee Bucks. He found himself in transition with teammate Corey Brewer, and only Bucks forward Mike Dunleavy was back to defend. But Brewer passed too early, leaving Gallinari trying to make the shot with Dunleavy all over him.
“The shot of the century!” the Nuggets’ play-by-play man exclaimed after Gallinari twisted his body and released the awkward layup that you really have to see to believe. It bounced high off the backboard before rolling into the hoop. Dunleavy apparently got a bloody nose from the contact, which led to an and-one chance.
The best part: Fans in attendance won free tacos because of a promotion for when the Nuggets reach 110 points. That shot accounted for the 109th and 110th points.
“They loved it for the tacos, I think,” Gallinari said during a TV interview (via Sports Illustrated). “It was a good shot, an important shot.”
Gallinari, part of the Carmelo Anthony trade with the New York Knicks, has been exceptional in 2013 after a slow start to the season. The Italian forward finished with 22 points Tuesday despite missing the free throw after that layup.
We don’t have stats on how many tacos he’s won for fans.
