Stern won’t stand in way of jersey ads
by Reid Cherner, USA TODAY
Everybody and everybody’s body is up for sale. David Stern doesn’t like that but he accepts it.
A traditionalist can also be a realist.
The commissioner told A. Sherrod Blakely of csnne.com that advertising on NBA jerseys is “something that’s being discussed by the NBA Governors. “This is the one forum that understands that advertising on team jerseys has gone on for decades.”
Stern is not a fan of the ads but he knows that millions of dollars in increased revenue is always worth talking about.
“Of all the leagues in the world, the NBA is the only one that has its own logo on it,” Stern said. “No information of the manufacturer and no sponsor, and that is something that I have worked hard to preserve for many decades. But I understand that the time may have to come to consider it. So we’re going to let the Board of Governors decide what to do.”
