Deron Williams Chooses the Brooklyn Nets

After weighing his options and meeting with the Dallas Mavericks, Deron Williams has decided to re-sign with the Brooklyn Nets. Williams announced the “tough decision” on his Twitter account, posting a picture of the Nets logo.

Williams will sign a five-year, $98.75 million deal with the Nets. The most that the Mavericks could offer was four years and $75 million.

The 28-year-old can officially re-sign with the Nets on July 11, when the league’s moratorium ends.

Brooklyn has already made several moves to build around their superstar point guard. In recent days, the Nets re-signed Gerald Wallace as well as traded for Joe Johnson and Reggie Evans. Now, with Williams re-signed, Brooklyn will look to fill out the rest of their roster.

Last season, Williams averaged 21.0 points and 8.7 assist with the Nets.

Now, other free agent point guards around the NBA will begin to sign. Available floor generals such as Steve Nash, Jeremy Lin, Ramon Sessions, Goran Dragic and Aaron Brooks were in a holding pattern as Williams considered his options. With Williams off the market, teams will begin to negotiate with others, starting with Nash. After those two dominoes fall, expect a lot of movement from other point guards.
