Doc Rivers Unphased by ‘Red Flag’
“I had a red flag, and I didn’t know what it was,” Rivers said of falling to the 31st pick in the 1983 draft. “Michael Finley had a red flag. He was a great player at Wisconsin, something happened his senior year and suddenly he has one. There’s so many of those guys. Every year there’s a red flag guy who turns out to be a pretty good guy.
“We were fortunate this year that Jared fell to us. If Jared had come out the year before, he would have been (No.) 2 or 3 in the draft. Instead he fell all the way to us. I think it was good for Jared as well. In every draft there are guys who do fall, and it can be for 1,000 reasons.
