Duncan Approves of Popovich’s Rotations
Tim Duncan, in his 15th season as the Spurs power forward, credits coach Gregg Popovich for steeling his team — both mentally and physically — for the grind.
“Pop doesn’t allow us to look for excuses,” Duncan said. “As long as we play the right way, it doesn’t bother him.”
During the five-game gauntlet, Popovich masterfully juggled his rotation, buying rest for his older players without sacrificing games in the standings.
The Spurs played with a full roster only once, in Wednesday’s 117-112 victory over the Kings. The Spurs’ Big Three of Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker played together in full for just two of the five games.
“(Popovich) allows us enough rest,” Duncan said. “We’re playing enough guys that we’re keeping everybody fresh. He tries to take away as many excuses as possible.”
