Gordon Filling Closer Role for Hornets

The New Orleans Hornets hadn’t strung together two consecutive victories since early November and the challenge to achieve it Monday night appeared daunting against the San Antonio Spurs. But shooting guard Eric Gordon turned out to be what the Hornets needed down the stretch to pull out a remarkable 95-88 victory at the New Orleans Arena that ended a seven-game home losing streak.

The Spurs, one of the top teams in the league, had won six consecutive games against the Hornets and 14 of the past 15. But they couldn’t keep Gordon from emerging as the Hornets’ closer down the stretch on his way to game-high 24 points, eight coming in the fourth quarter.

“I’m just now getting back into the swing of things,” Gordon said. “Probably one of the key things that I do best is when it come to late-game situations, I’m able to get up a good shot; create my own shot. I love those situations.”
